The Conjuring franchise has reached a level of success we never expected. After a very well-received first film, the saga has become its very own sprawling cinematic universe. Right now, Warner Bros. is working on Anabelle 2: Creation, The Conjuring 3 and perhaps the one that has fans the most excited, The Nun.
Anyone who saw The Conjuring 2 will remember the nun as the apparition that haunted Ed and Lorraine Warren, while also stalking a little girl in London, because she was plotting a strategy to kill the Warren... by making them cross the pond...? Look, the story is frustratingly complicated, and that many questions in the movie had fans asking: just where in the underworld did the scary nun come from?
It's thanks to that mystery and all-around creepiness that the character is getting her very own film. With the franchise's track record, and the fact that Corin Hardy (The Hallow, Butterfly) is directing it, the new scary ride seems to be not only in great shape, but also quite promising. Now, it has taken a huge step forward by casting its ominous new star.
Deadline is reporting that Taissa Farmiga has joined the cast of the film as the film's title character: A nun, but not a regular one. The actress will be portraying the young version of the sinister and vicious demon we met in The Conjuring 2. She will be joining Demián Bichir, who was confirmed to star earlier in April.
You might recognize Farmiga from her roles in movies like 6 Years, In A Valley Of Violence and Rules Don't Apply. She also lent her voice to the superheroine Raven in Teen Titans Vs. Justice League and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract.
Unfortunately for horror fans eager to know what will be going down in this new chapter in The Conjuring cinematic universe, aside from the fact that the story will deal with Demián Bichir's character investigating the mysterious murder of a nun, details have been kept tightly under wraps for the spinoff.

There's something else to take away from this casting, however. Taissa Farmiga is the real-life little sister of Vera Farmiga, who stars as Lorraine Warren in the franchise. The fact that her little sister is now portraying the demon that's haunted her and her husband gives sibling rivalry a whole other, completely sinister meaning.
While not as well-known as her big sister, Farmiga is a very talented actress with a lot of range, so I can't wait to see what she brings to the already intriguing role of the demonic nun.
The Nun will crawl into theaters to scare the bejesus out of us on July 13, 2018.
