Imagine if unemployment in the US was down to 1% and crime was almost non-existent. Sounds pretty sweet, doesn't it? How about if the only way you could achieve that is to have one night of the year where all illegal activity is legal. Acting as a sort of pressure valve for society, you would be free to murder, abuse and assault anybody you wanted. Still sound like such a sweet deal?
That is the hellish scenario in The Purge, a crime thriller-cum-horror in which a family tries to protect their home when a man seeks shelter in it during the annual night of lawlessness.
