has announced that she is bringing back the fantastic world of Harry Potter. However there is a catch to bringing back the world of wizards, witches, and other magical beings. There is no Harry Potter. This new movie will be set seventy years before Harry Potter is even born.

Yesterday Warner Brothers announced that J.K. Rowling is writing her first screenplay with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This is going to be the first movie in a new series which is part of a new creative partnership between the esteemed author and the film company power house. The movies will be inspired by Harry Potter's textbooks, and will feature the book's fictitious author, Newt Scamander. It is being heralded as a new series of films, so at this time I am going to speculate that each movie will focus on a different author of a different text book. I can not really see them turning one text book into an entire series of movies.

The following is from J.K. Rowling's facebook status:

“It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of 'Fantastic Beasts', realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favourite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood. As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros. Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway."

She goes on to thank the people at Warner who approved the idea.

Personally I was waiting for her to make a return to this universe. I was hopping for it to focus on Harry Potter's children, and a new evil rises from depths of the unknown. Now according to her status update she is only writing these as screenplays. I am a little bummed out about that. I always thought that a return to the Potterverse would include new books to read. Maybe she will find the time to eventually turn them into books as well, or maybe after the screenplays are written and approved, someone else will adapt them into novels.

I am excited about this bit of news, so what about you guys? Lets discuss this in the comments below!!
