Over the past week, two stars of the Fast and Furious franchise, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Tyrese, have been involved in a very public feud on social media. The discord between the two originated in an Instagram post from Tyrese, who slammed The Rock after it was announced that — due to the Rock's busy schedule — the release date for Fast and Furious 9 had been pushed back.
In another Instagram post, Tyrese seemingly accused The Rock of turning his back on the franchise by signing on for the Hobbs solo film.
Up until now, the feud between the two stars has mostly been kept alive by Tyrese, who continues to bash The Rock every chance he gets. Recently, though, #TheRock finally had some words for Tyrese, but the conflict between the two might not be as genuine as it once seemed.
The Fued Takes A Strange Turn, As The Rock Slams Tyrese's Album On Instagram
Tyrese recently posted a video on Instagram, which shows The Rock utterly eviscerating Tyrese's 2015 album Black Rose. During The Rock’s rant, he laid into Tyrese's album thoroughly and held nothing back:
"Every song is like big piece of dog shit. It shouldn't be called 'Black Rose.' It should be called 'Big Piece of Black Dog Shit.' That's what it should be called. Not even the hard dried up dog shit for seven days. It's the soft dog shit. It's like baby shit. I'm never going to fucking forgive him for wasting my time. That is time I will never get back. It's like dog shit is in my ear, motherfucker."
Although it seems like The Rock is adding fire to this feud, the whole presentation of this video seems a bit fishy. First, this video wasn’t posted by The Rock; it was posted by Tyrese. It seems odd that if this feud was 100 percent genuine, that Tyrese would be the one to post a video that slams own album so harshly. Also, the video could be over two years old, so we don't know why it would be resurfacing now.
What’s the old adage? Oh yeah, there is no such thing as bad press, especially when you have one of the most dominant forces on social media talking about your new album. For those who followed The Rock when he was The People’s Champ in the WWE, the video posted by Tyrese seems oddly familiar. In the video, The Rock uses the same cadence and insult structure he did when he was a wrestler, which causes us to question the validity of this feud.
Tyrese’s caption of the video also raises some eyebrows, because it defends Black Rose in a way that seems more like a promotion then a defense. The text from the Instagram post reads as follows:
“Haters come in many forms...... In my Kanye voice #BlackRose is one of the greatest R&B Soul Albums of all time my single SHAME was #1 on Billboard for 16 weeks my album came in #1 on the TOP 200!!! Real R&B music lovers know..... This album is in a league of its own #BlackRose”
Sure, it’s possible that the two could have genuine beef with each other, but knowing The Rock’s ability to heel turn on a dime, it seems likely that the feud is a viral marketing ploy. If that is the case, it’s a smart play, especially for #Tyrese, who has now promoted his 2015 album that people probably forgot about.
Whatever the case, the feud (or "feud") between the two is incredibly entertaining, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.
