Marvel head and action star have had a media bromance going on lately, with the pair trading complimentary nods and thinly-veiled "OMG we should TOTES work together and be BFFsies!" hints back and forth. So will The Rock be appearing in a Marvel movie any time soon? It actually may not be as far-fetched as you'd think; it looks like the Rock is lobbying to be cast as Luke Cage.
Feige started off the internet firestorm when he expressed his admiration of Johnson and a blatant desire to work with him one day in a recent interview with Collider:
I think yeah, I mean his name has come up in the past. I'm a gigantic fan of his, I think he's an incredible – I might have met him once a long time ago, but I haven't really met him. I don't really know him – but I think he's an unbelievable personality and an unbelievable sort of force of nature. He's awesome in 'Pain & Gain', he was great in 'G.I. Joe', he's really kind of an amazing human being. His Twitter's always cool and he promotes the hell out of everything he does. I would love him to be part of the Marvel universe somewhere, someday.
Wow, Feige. Fanboy out a little harder, why don't you?
But The Rock received these coy advances and lobbied back a pitch of his own, Tweeting this the other day:
Since it looks like isn't playing Luke Cage in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after all, but someone else entirely, this leaves the door open for Johnson. And, looking at that picture up there, he's...well, kind of perfect for the role, no? Like, holy ish perfect, especially with comic book fans being such insane sticklers for the actors and actresses cast< looking exactly like the characters they portray.
Does this mean we might be seeing The Rock in S.H.I.E.L.D.? Or even The Avengers: Age Of Ultron? With Marvel's Phase 2 only just now rolling out, there's an entire universe of possibility. A Marvel Cinematic Universe of possibility, to be exact.
