Unfortunately, Monteith's self-admitted past heavy drug use and substance addiction problems and his stint in rehab in April have fueled the internet speculation that always happens in the wake of the death of a celebrity that leaves the world too soon. While a few fellow cast members and friends have spoken out about his passing on Twitter and in the media (not among them: girlfriend and costar , who understandably asked for privacy), the Vancouver Police Department determined he was alone when he died, so we will have to wait days, possibly weeks, before the results of the autopsy and toxicology reports come back.
Here is a brief video of a representative from both the Vancouver Police Department and the Coroner's Office addressing the media on what they know so far:
While there is no "good" outcome to this heartbreaking story, friends and family - and Glee fans - can only hope it was the result of tragic, but natural, causes, rather than a relapse into drugs or alcohol. I have admittedly never watched the show, but still, Monteith seemed to be a genuinely kind-hearted person who was fiercely loved and wholly respected by those who knew him. Let's hope that is the legacy he leaves, and not that of another young talent taken too soon by his addictions.
