It's been a rough season for fans of #TheWalkingDead, but according to Andrew Lincoln, things are going to take a turn for the positive. Season 7A ended with Rick's group reuniting at the Hilltop with a new resolve to take on Negan, and it looks like there's some sweet revenge on the cards for the big bad's most traumatized victims.
Andrew Lincoln spilled the beans to Entertainment Weekly, promising that the second half of Season 7 would be "the opposite of what you just witnessed", and will involve Rick's dream team kicking ass like old times:
"You see a man in action again with some of the members of his closest family... There’s a lot more levity, if you can believe that, than you’ve ever seen before in Mr. Grimes. There’s sort of a freedom in him, a feeling that comes from losing everything, and also the thrill of the fight. It’s the thrill of the fight again. He’s back in. All I’m saying is that the band is back together."
He may not be allowed to reveal too many specifics, but Lincoln did divulge a small teaser. Apparently episode 16 — the season finale — will be of particular interest to viewers:
"I promise you, there is one beat in 16, I dropped my script and started punching the air and did a little jig."
Lincoln says he was absolutely stoked with his involvement in the show's new direction— or rather, a return to form for the long-running zombie drama:
“There are several episodes that I loved being involved in and it certainly feels very much more like a show that I knew and recognized in the back eight. I loved the episodes that I was in.”

It's About Damn Time
To be frank, a positive change of affairs is well overdue for poor Rick Grimes and his fellow tortured souls. They've had a pretty hard run of things this past season, with more than a few awful events making their already-difficult life way harder than it should be. Here's some of the most horrifying moments from Season 7 of The Walking Dead:
5. Glenn & Abraham Getting Lucille'd
Walking Dead fans barely had a minute to breathe a guilty sigh of relief when Negan picked Abraham before Lucille turned on everyone's favorite delivery boy. Much like the shattered remains of Abraham and Glenn's skulls, our hearts were damaged beyond repair that day. It's not too surprising that many viewers resolved to quit watching the show completely after that gruesome incident.
4. Negan's Face Melt
The ever-increasing special effects makeup budget of The Walking Dead has brought more than just a few impressive walker deaths this season. Negan pressing that red-hot iron against the face of the Savior who slept with one of his many wives is an image we're not going to forget anytime soon.
3. Negan Completely Breaking Rick's Spirit
Poor, poor Rick. That guy really can't catch a break. He's literally gone from hero to zero, and Negan's control over him has caused him to lose everything. Hell, he almost lost his kid's hand. Rick's a born leader, and following an evil bastard like Negan around like a lost puppy really doesn't suit his persona.
2. Easy Street
Glenn and Abraham's execution may be an image that's burned into our minds forever, but Easy Street has to be the most unforgettable song to ever disgrace television. The ironically upbeat tune has been forever immortalized in our memories, and the tortured look on a captive Daryl's face conveys that feeling perfectly.
1. Eugene Being Taken By Negan
Not Eugene! Sweet, innocent Eugene! Rosita's badly thought-out plan to take out Negan with a single bullet seemed flawless in her mind, but for some completely unknown reason it wasn't as foolproof as she first thought. She might have been willing to die for her assassination attempt, but she sure wasn't counting on Eugene being punished for her crime. Hopefully Eugene's skills make him an asset to Negan, and not just another candidate for the Easy Street suite.
What do you think will transpire in The Walking Dead Season 7B to help put a smile on the survivors' dials?
