With The Walking Dead soon making a return to TV in less than a month, AMC are ramping up promotion for the second half of Season 7. Last week we got images from the upcoming Episode 9, yesterday we got a photo containing a mysterious stranger, and now the official promotional character posters have dropped!
In comparison to the cast images going into Season 7, the ones for Season 7b are certainly a lot more hopeful, though all worryingly seem to include a smear of blood, almost as though someone is marking them all as targets to be picked off. All together 14 of the main cast received a promo image, shedding some light on who the next eight episodes might chose to focus on, though there are no true surprises save for the inclusion of Father Gabriel and the exclusion of Jesus.
Take a look below at the promo images for each cast member and refresh yourself about their upcoming challenges in Season 7b:
As the first half of Season 7 drew to a close, Rick was finally getting his confidence back after being scared into submission in the premiere episode. It was a different Rick than ever we've seen before, and now going into the second half of the season Rick must solidify his role as leader and also as a diplomat as he liases with even more communities of survivors in the hopes of banding together to rise up against Negan.
It was a horrible time for Daryl during Season 7a, after inadvertently causing the death of his friend Glenn, Daryl was whisked away and imprisoned by Negan and his men. Forced to eat dog food and submitted to cruel and unusual torture methods, Daryl was a totally broken man. Thankfully after managing to escape, he found his way back to the Hilltop and reunited with Maggie and Jesus. In Season 7 Daryl will prove a valuable member of the team given his knowledge of Negan's base and also his burning desire to avenge the deaths of his friends.
Of any member of the team, Maggie almost certainly has the biggest reason to want to take Negan down. Pregnant and widowed, Maggie hasn't allowed herself to be consumed by grief and Glenn's death only seemed to make her more sure of her role in the community moving forward. Now, as she attempts to wrestle leadership of Hilltop from Gregory, she'll be a huge asset to Rick in helping to gather support for his plan of attack against Negan.
Carl has really stepped up during Season 7, and seems eager to prove he's an asset, not a liability. After his time spent with Negan, Carl probably now better understands what motivates the Big Bad, and it seems to only have increased his want to take him out. It seems like Season 7b will be the time when Rick finally realizes that Carl should be a major part of any plan, and whether he gives him permission or not Carl will probably be on the front line of any battle.

Michonne really seemed to have a hard time dealing with the change in Rick for the first half of Season 7, instead aligning more with Maggie's thinking that the group should be retaliating, not submitting. Eager to expand her defense skills, Michonne even started learning how to shoot, understanding that her katana was not always going to be her best weapon of choice. Season 7b will probably be a return for form for Michonne, kicking ass and taking names though it will be interesting to see if she continues learning how to shoot, potentially inheriting Andrea's skill as a sniper from the comic series.
It'll be interesting to see more of Morgan in Season 7b given that we didn't really get to see him in action at all in Season 7a, and considering that he killed his first living person at the end of Season 6 for a long while. We'll most likely encounter him when Rick goes to meet Ezekiel and see the Kingdom, but whether or not Rick can count on the support of his old friend remains to be seen.
Negan, Negan, Negan, you murderous son of a bitch. After one hell of a first half, I expect Negan will continue on much the same path for the second half. However, he may be even more dangerous now that he's taken Eugene as prisoner, planning on getting him to make bullets for the Saviors.
Rosita could be a loose cannon in the second half of Season 7, given that her reckless actions and need for revenge ended with Olivia being killed in retaliation. With Spencer and Abraham dead, this could be enough to drive anyone off the edge, and I wouldn't be surprised if Rosita would be up for some sort of sacrificial-type action in the fight against Negan, or certainly be one of the more aggressive fighters.
Sasha has one hell of a first half of the season, losing her partner and moving to the Hilltop. However, she's almost always been a strong and dependable member of the crew and going into Season 7b I'm sure she'll only continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
Oh Carol how we missed you. Following her attempt at escape from Alexandria, Carol spent most of Season 7a recovering and settling into life in a cottage outside of an established community. It will be interesting to see more of Carol in Season 7b, though with Rick coming to meet Ezekiel and gather the support of the Kingdom, time will tell whether Carol will support her old friend or continue to live her isolated life.
Eugene has rallied to become a valued member of the squad this season, especially given his new found bullet-making skills. However, given that Season 7a ended with Negan taking Eugene back to his base, it's anyones guess what might happen to the man with the mullet.
It was awesome to see Tara finally return to the group in Episode 6 after spending an age out on a supply run with Heath. And, after returning to find Glenn, Abraham and Denise all dead, I have a feeling Tara will be one very eager member of Rick's group to join the fight.
With Daryl gone from Alexandria in Season 7a, Aaron really stepped up as Rick's right hand man. With a plan now being formulated to take Negan down, there's no doubt that Aaron will once again use the skills he learnt working for an NGO pre-apocalypse, and help liase with the new communities to bring the Big Bad to his knees.
Seeing Gabriel get his own character poster is encouraging for fans who are eager to see more character development from the man of the cloth. Toward the end of Season 7b Gabriel was really showing promise as a important member of the team, and hopefully we can only see him continue to back up Rick and co in the future.
