One of the most talked about scenes from Sunday's mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead saw Carl sat on a roof gobbling down a 112-ounce can of chocolate pudding.
So popular was Carl's enjoyment of the dessert, that #pudding was trending on Twitter and now executive producer and director of the episode, Greg Nicotero, has admitted there was even a pudding-based joke in the script that didn't make it into the final cut.
Speaking on TWD companion show, The Talking Dead, Nicotero revealed:
There’s something funny I can say. In the script, when Carl finds the jar of pudding…in the script, there was a line that said, ‘Pudding is awesome,’ that Kirman had written just as part of the description. And when we shot the scene, and Chandler climbs up onto the countertop, I actually shot a take where he said, ‘Pudding is awesome,’ when he grabbed it. It just felt kind of natural. It was really, really funny. And [Showrunner Scott] Gimple was like, ‘You know, he’s not really supposed to say it.’ I said, ‘I know, but it was funny. We shot it, and we put it in the cut.’ And then they were like, ‘No.
I think the line would have worked in the episode. The Walking Dead is such a humorless place that it would've been cool to get a bit of light relief. And pudding is awesome, so not only is it a funny line but it's also factually accurate.
