The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead season 7, 'Say Yes,' saw Rick and Michonne in a carnival wonderland full of cheeky film referencesKill Bill, Creepshow, Zombieland — and exciting zombie kills. But did we see more than we thought we did?

As the moldy walkers stumbled menacingly towards our beloved Rick Grimes, a few eagle-eyed viewers noticed that some of the zombies had their hands tied together. To comic readers, this hints at one (rather thrilling) prospect: The Whisperers are here.

Re-watch the promo from The Walking Dead S07E12 to see if you can spot the walkers in question.

However, as with so many little nuggets fans spot on the show, this one seems to have been dismissed by Greg Nicotero, who told Comic Book:

I think it's safe for us to say that there are a lot of people that have been taken prisoner throughout the apocalypse, and this particular place, I think that it was taken much earlier in the apocalypse, so a lot of the Walkers and a lot of the Zombies have been there for quite a while.

Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple has also spoken to ComicBook.com about the Whisperers, saying:

It's not impossible that the Whisperers could come along or aspects of them could come along earlier than the timeline of the book, but certainly not this early.

The Whisperers were first introduced to The Walking Dead comics in issue #130, so we've got a way to go before we see them — if the show sticks to the comics' timeline. When do you guys think they'll show up?
