After a thrilling seventh season finale, fans were dying to know what would happen next on AMC's The Walking Dead and they finally got their answer when the hit series returned to screens last Sunday for its 100th episode. The Season 8 premiere delivered in every way possible, as Rick and the gang launched an attack on Negan and his Sanctuary, leaving the villainous tyrant in a vulnerable state.
Once again, we were all excited to see what would happen after Gabriel found himself trapped with Negan in a trailer surrounded by walkers. The second episode of #TheWalkingDead did not give us the answers we were hoping for, but it did deliver a spellbinding hour of #horror, gore and pure entertainment. Before we look ahead at what's to come in the future, let's take a look back at the five biggest moments from "The Damned."
Note: This article contains spoilers from The Walking Dead Season 8.
1. The War Continues
As the Saviors attempted to recover from the attack in last week's premiere episode, one particular strain of Negan's followers were ambushed by the Alexandrians. This time, it was Aaron who led the attack. It became apparent that the Alexandrians, the Hilltop residents and The Kingdom's people were all working together in separate groups, and Aaron's group was to serve as a distraction while Rick and Daryl broke into the compound and stole weapons from Negan.
As Aaron's group took shelter behind their well-armored vehicles, they were able to kill quite a few of the Saviors and even managed to take out the woman leading the charge. It was a very exciting opening to a great episode!
2. Jesus Is Taken Hostage
While disposing of several Saviors at the Satellite outpost, Jesus and Tara encountered one of Negan's men on his knees, surrendering. He pleaded with our two heroes, begging for his life. Tara and Jesus clashed over what they should do with the man; Jesus was convinced that killing him was the wrong decision whereas Tara, still resentful at the Saviors for what they did to Denise, was convinced that the man needed to die.
As they argued, the man turned the tables, stole Jesus' gun and took the long-haired warrior hostage. The Savior grew nasty and told Tara that he planned on using them to secure his freedom, but before he could put his plan into action, Jesus was able to regain control and took the gun back. Is there anything he can't do?
3. Morgan's Meltdown
Arguably the purest character in the show, Morgan has been through quite a lot on The Walking Dead. For many a season, the warrior refused to kill anyone, believing that the best way forward was to set an example for future generations by instilling in people that killing was not necessary. However, after discovering what Negan did to Glenn and Abraham last season, Morgan soon realized that violence, unfortunately, is necessary in this post-apocalyptic world.
In tonight's episode, the fan-favorite character went a little crazy on his mission to dispose of the Saviors. While he did fulfill his duty, he went a little too far, killing everyone in his path without a second thought. While doing so, he remembered Rick's speech from last season when the leader told him that killing is necessary to maintain control. Later, he clashed with Jesus over issue of whether or not they should kill the Saviors who surrendered. Oh Morgan.
4. Eric Is Shot
As the war waged on between the Alexandrians and the Saviors across multiple locations, we found ouselves back with Aaron, who was successfully taking out Negan's men. His boyfriend Eric was nearby, and he also put up a pretty good fight, taking out quite a few Saviors too.
When Aaron realized that Eric was in imminent danger, he got in one of the well-armored trucks and headed over to rescue his boyfriend. However, it wasn't a happy reunion because it soon became apparent that Eric had been shot and he was bleeding badly.
5. Morales Returns
We haven't seen him since way back in Season 1 when the group were in Atlanta, but he made his shocking return to the show in the latest episode. That's right: Morales is back! As Rick continued to hunt one of the Saviors' outposts for weapons, he found himself in an awkward situation: someone was pointing a gun at him.
As the camera panned around it was revealed to be Morales. Rick recognized the man instantly and pleaded with him to let him go. However, it appears that Morales has been taken in by Negan's lies as he told Rick that he'd already radioed the Saviors, and that they were on their way to get him. We don't know about you, but our jaws were on the floor after this one. What a spectacular reveal!
The Walking Dead once again gave us plenty to think about while we wait for the next episode, but one thing's for sure: Morales's return has thrown a spanner in the works. Rick's team were easily defeating Negan's but now the tables have been turned, so who know's what will happen next? Plus, with Gabriel in the villainous clutches of Negan, we don't know which team will have the final victory.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
