It's been back on our screens for a little over five weeks but the action isn't slowing down on AMC's The Walking Dead. After celebrating its 100th episode last month, the post-apocalyptic drama has been on a bit of a roll, reclaiming some of the compelling storytelling that fans are used to. This season has seen Rick, Daryl, Carol and the others launch an attack on Negan and his Saviors, taking out multiple of the villain's outposts.

We've seen quite a few shocking moments already in Season 8, from Gabriel finding himself trapped with Negan, to Shiva's unfortunate and untimely death, but the latest episode of was arguably the biggest of the season yet. This Sunday, we finally returned to the Sanctuary, where we once again found Negan and Gabriel trapped in a trailer surrounded by walkers. Before we get excited for next week's episode, let's take a look back at the biggest moments from Episode 5, "Big Scary U."

Note: This article contains heavy spoilers for the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

This week's episode picked up from where the Season 8 premiere left off, with Gabriel trapped in the trailer with Negan. While they sat and waited, hoping someone would come and rescue them from the walkers that roamed outside, Gabriel baited Negan into confessing his crimes. Negan didn't take the bait at first, but we did learn a little bit about his past, as well as his mentality. According to the antagonist, he's saving people in the apocalypse and that's because he's always saved people. He told Gabriel that, before the apocalypse occurred, he saved kids — which leads us to believe that he was a school teacher. I don't know about you, but I didn't see that one coming!

As Negan and Gabriel continued their confab, Gabriel tried to convince Negan to confess to all of his crimes. Negan remained steadfast in his position on sin, telling the priest that the deaths of both Abraham and Glenn were necessary. However, Gabriel appeared to hit a nerve with Negan when he asked if he had a wife before the apocalypse, and while Negan let his guard down Gabriel stole his gun. Negan tried to fight back, but fortunately the priest was able to escape into another room in the small trailer. Good going Gabriel!

3. Rick and Daryl Fight

After running one of Negan's men off the road in last week's episode, Rick and Daryl headed to the Savior's truck to pick up their newfound weapons. Daryl picked up a bag of dynamite and told Rick that they could use the dynamite to blow up the Sancuary, which would dispose of the Saviors and end the war in minutes. Rick was a little perturbed by the idea and told Daryl that workers and other non-violent people live at the sanctuary, but Daryl remained steadfast, telling him that this was the only way. Rick and Daryl got into a physical fight, which resulted in the dynamite exploding in the nearby truck.

After they shared somewhat of a heart to heart, Negan and Gabriel agreed that their best shot of getting out of the trailer alive would be to work together. So Negan pulled a dead walker into the trailer and cut it open, explaining to Gabriel that they were going to cover themselves in walker guts in the hope of going unnoticed. How nice. As we've seen on both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead in the past, the plan was mostly successful. As the two characters fled the trailer, Gabriel fell, which sparked the interest of a nearby walker. Negan came to Gabriel's aid and took out some of the nearby walkers with Lucille. Similarly, Gabriel fired his gun to keep Negan alive and the pair successfully made to the safety of the Sanctuary.

5. Gabriel's Plan

As Eugene prepared to welcome Gabriel to the Sanctuary, he was shocked to discover that the priest was shivering and sweating — clearly, there's something wrong with Gabriel. Eugene told him that he needed to see Doctor Carson, and Gabriel agreed, but he also suggested that the pair of them need to get Carson to safety as he is Maggie's doctor too. Will Eugene help his former friends or will he stay loyal to Negan? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

We're already five episodes into Season 8 and, as you saw in the latest installment of the series, things are really heating up. With the war waging on, it's hard to predict what's going to happen for our survivors next, but as we approach the mid-season finale (which is only a couple of weeks away) chances are we could be seeing some more casualties along the way.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC.
