(WARNING: This article contains plot points and spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7)
As #TheWalkingDead returned for its seventh season this October, millions of fans tuned in to see who was at the end of #Negan's barbed wire bat, #Lucille, last season. The Season 7 premiere brought in so many viewers, making it one of the series' highest rated episodes.
Since then, the excitement for the show has been considerably low. However, the first half of the season gave us answers while giving us twice as many questions for the rest of the season. Let's take a look at some of the things we learned so far:
4. Negan's Dominance Across The Communities
Confirmed by showrunner Scott M. Gimple, the second half of Season 6 was about Rick's defiant arrogance to complete capitulation. Opening with the Season 7 premiere, we finally see Rick more broken than ever before. Last season, we had figured out that Negan already had ties with the Hilltop community where Gregory and Jesus reside.
Beginning with the introduction of #Ezekiel and The Kingdom in S07E02, "The Well," we start to see how involved Negan is with the rest of the communities, seeing his control over Alexandria, the Hilltop, and The Kingdom, and at one time, the residents at the Oceanside community, along with the fear that has set in each community.
3. Maggie Has Been Set Up For Leadership
From what we've seen so far with Maggie's story, it seems as that they are staying true to the comics with her character. Ever since the introduction of the Hilltop community last season and her current position at the Hilltop so far during Season 7, we can clearly see that Maggie is being set up to be the leader of the Hilltop, regardless if Gregory is alive or dead. At this point, she's the best the Hilltop has, and it's obvious they're setting her up for something special.
2. Rick Will Soon Gain Control
This first half of the season was all about showing Negan's power and to show that #RickGrimes is no longer in charge. After watching the mid-season finale, it seems that Rick is beginning to gain his control back by building his confidence. After listening to Michonne's speech about fighting together, Rick is now becoming his old self again. He knows they can't strike just yet, but it's time to band together to take out Negan and his men.
1. We're Heading For An All Out War
If you're unfamiliar with the comic storyline, basically it is a story arc where all of the communities unite to go to war with Negan and The Saviors. Without spoiling the outcome in the comics, there was bloodshed — and lots of it. During the last few minutes of the mid-season finale, we see that Rick and co. are ready to talk to Gregory, presumably about a plan to take out Negan. Now that all of our communities have been introduced, it appears that the second half of Season 7 will be about unity and everybody coming together as a family and as a team to destroy Negan.
