I'm about as excited for The World's End as I am for any movie. And just to clarify, that's a lot. So, it makes sense that the official synopsis for the movie which marks the third installment in the Blood and Ice Cream (Three Flavours Cornetto) Trilogy gets me totally pumped. Here it is for you, via Giant Freakin' Robot:
Director Edgar Wright and actors and reunite for a third film following the successes of "Shaun of the Dead" (2004) and "Hot Fuzz" (2007). In "The World's End," 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World's End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind's. Reaching The World's End is the least of their worries.
With 2004's Shaun of the Dead taking on horror, and 2007's Hot Fuzz tackling buddy-cop action, the final installment looks to be the apocalyptic counterpart.
Wright, Pegg and Frost always bring out the best in one another, and their past collaborations have struck a delicate balance between comedy, profundity and technical aptitude. I can hardly wait...
The World's End arrives in theaters August 23rd. Excited?
