The truth will finally be revealed. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back in business as Mulder and Scully, and we finally have a look at what's in store for our favorite paranormal-investigating FBI agents when The X-Files makes its way back to the small screen.

At the epic conclusion of last season, all hope seemed lost as Mulder's life depended on whether Scully could somehow locate their son, William. The massive cliffhanger left us with Scully standing mesmerized by the blinding light of a UFO, and the world closing in on near total apocalypse. They must now race against the clock to defend the planet — check out the first trailer for The X-Files Season 11 below:

has apparently recovered without his son, as he and are doing everything in their power to keep William from becoming another government coverup. The stakes have never been higher. The previous season received lukewarm reviews, so hopefully Season 11 — and its apparent high-paced, non-stop action — will appeal to the diehards and draw in some new fans as well, potentially giving us a true conclusion to this iconic, decades-spanning, science-fiction series.

The new season features the return of the classic duo played by and along with returning fan-favorites as Mitch Pileggi as Skinner, William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man, Robbie Amell as Special Agent Kyd Miller, Lauren Ambrose as Agent Liz Einstein and Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes.

The X-Files touches down, returning to Fox in January 2018.
