Ever since the success of Tom Holland's performance in Captain America: Civil War, fans have been turning inside and out, trying to figure out Marvel Studios' next move for Spider-Man's villains. With the Spider-Man reboot, Marvel Studios has a lot of cleaning up that which Sony made a mess of. One of the main things they need to fix is his villains.
The only good villains that nailed it, were: Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus. The main villain that did the worst was Venom. Let's face it, we don't know who to blame: Sony, director Sam Raimi, or Topher Grace's portrayal as Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3. Marvel Studios has been known to have a problem with their villains, so it is critical that they get Spider-Man's villains right. From casting choice to the script, it has to be done right, or we may have a second failure at the Spider-Man franchise, following The Amazing Spider-Man films.
For Spider-Man: Homecoming, it's rumored that The Vulture will be the main villain so I don't expect Venom to make an appearance in the film, but that shouldn't stop Marvel Studios from searching. Therefore I've gathered some information as to why I believe one of the following actors should be cast as Eddie Brock/Venom:
5. Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, Queer as Folk)
Hunnam has done fantastic work in Sons of Anarchy and I believe he could potentially be cast for the role. I can definitely see him as Eddie Brock. He's had a very successful acting career, especially in his recent years. He doesn't own an Oscar, but that doesn't mean he isn't talented, which he is. His trademark, according to his IMDb page, is that he plays tough-guy antiheroes or psychopaths. That, in itself is enough to convince me that Charlie Hunnam is a good candidate.
4. Stephen Amell (Arrow, TMNT: Out of the Shadows)
This one is out there, but it could work. Stephen Amell is an excellent actor and he is well known for his role as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, in CW's Arrow, and his recent role as Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. He's been in a few successful projects, mainly in TV shows. I've always wanted to see Amell in a villainous role, and Venom could be the perfect choice. With his previous superhero roles, that makes Amell a great candidate, therefore I wouldn't be surprised if he lands the role as Eddie Brock.
3. Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road)
If it wasn't for the next few candidates, Tom Hardy would be my number one pick for Eddie Brock. Hardy's role as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises was very well received and no doubt, Batman's most successful villain coming right behind Heath Ledger's Joker. I believe Hardy would be an excellent choice, due to already seeing him as a villain. Hardy cast as Eddie Brock would be very beneficial for Marvel, and for him. He always seems to take on huge projects, which could potentially be good for Hardy. He's got the stature, looks, and talent to land the role.
2. Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Independence Day: Resurgence)
If anybody would be cast as Venom, it would be Liam Hemsworth right? I mean he's got Eddie Brock written all over him. Brock has lighter hair in the comics, yes. But dye the hair and make him sign. Hemsworth is an amazing actor and his acting skills are very unique. Seeing him in The Hunger Games franchise was amazing and I love all of his scenes. His brother, Chris Hemsworth, currently plays Thor in the MCU. Having two brothers in the same universe would be pretty interesting. Hemsworth is a pretty marketable actor. Marvel Studios could really use Liam's talent to land him the role. I could see him playing Eddie Brock, or even Flash Thompson. Another article, another time, perhaps.
1. Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Smallville)
Now this actor is a little older, but I believe Marvel Studios could pull it off. I believe Ackles is a good choice, due to the look, talent and physical appearance of the actor. He's well known for his work in Supernatural and being credited as Jason Teague in Smallville. Jensen Ackles could definitely pull off the black symbiote. Likable, and versatile actor. Like Hemsworth, Ackles is also a very marketable actor which could bring Venom to life in the MCU.
