Holy reveals Batman! With the new behind-the-scenes promo clip released by Warner Bros., more light has been shed on who's going to be in The Lego Batman Movie, what it's going to be about, and what kinds of antics we can expect from our favorite Dork Knight! So without further ado, let's get into it.
1. Barbara Gordon Is Commissioner (And Batgirl)
We've had good ol' Jim Gordon wear the mantle of Gotham's premiere force of Justice (second only to the Batman himself) for all of the Batman movies up to this point in time, so it's refreshing to see some love for Barbara. What this indicates though is another story arc that hasn't been explored in a long time. In the main DCAU (DC animated universe) Barbara Gordon eventually became commissioner (ref. Batman Beyond), and in addition to this the inclusion of a Carrie Kelly-esque Robin, shows that the #LegoBatman movie is going to be an eclectic mashup of different prominent aesthetics and story arcs that #Batman has boasted over the course of his lifetime.
2. The Joker And Harley Quinn Are The Main Villains?
No surprise here, the Joker has been the main villain for most Batman films, and very rarely does he not show up in one form or another. However, I would expect some of the other big name villains like Poison Ivy, Dr. Freeze, and the Penguin to show up in the film at one point or another just because by virtue, #Lego franchise games and movies have always been inclusive and respectful of lore. Nonetheless, it's exciting to see the Clown Prince of Crime back in all of his wacky valor to take on the caped crusader once again!
3. We've Got The Justice League
Superman's looking a little sour at Bats taking up his prized lead spot, but hey, it's not The Lego Superman Movie. Our Justice League is looking a little more well-rounded out here with both Green Arrow and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan in this case) being a part of the team. It's exciting to see the full Justice League (sans Martian Manhunter) going into action for the first time (sorry, Snyder), and it's going to be a real treat for the fans to see how many references and Easter Eggs the movie is going to throw up.
4. We've Got Our First Shot Of The Full Bat Family
Ever since Batman and Robin Forever, there hasn't been a single inkling or reference towards the Bat family or even a Bat team in general. It's a shame, really — some of the greatest moments in the Batman stories are when Robin, Batgirl, RedHood, Nightwing, etc., all come together to save the day against insurmountable odds, showing that Batman isn't just one man, but he's a belief — an ideal — and that he's not as lonely as he'd like to make it out to be. With that being said, having Batgirl, Robin, Bats and Alfred together in one movie (and possibly more?) is a step in the right direction, with the promise of this movie being more team-up based, we'll see how many characters The Lego Batman Movie can squeeze into one film!
Well that's the roundup for the new promotional video that you can see right here:
