(WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the 2017 Power Rangers movie. You've been warned.)
The Power Rangers movie can safely be classed as a success, in both exceeding expectations by fans and critics along with amazing its creators, earning over $100 million. Bringing original design ideas, an original story and revitalizing characters from over 20 years ago, it has delivered a movie that can please an adult audience. There have even been talks of an adult-aimed series to be produced for Netflix. Moreover, Saban has revealed there is a total of six movies planned so far.
However, it's clear that originality to the concept works. One thing fans would like to see in the future movies is a female Green Ranger, which, sadly, is unlikely to happen. With the post-credit scene setting up for Tommy to arrive, it is safe to say the Green Ranger will be male. However, there are plenty of options that could happen in future movies, and this article will look at what we could see.
8. For Movie 2: Rogue Green Ranger
While it is unlikely for a female Green Ranger to appear in the next movie, it is safe to say a Green Ranger will still be present. The original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show saw the Green Ranger being used for evil purposes by Rita Repulsa. Tommy was portrayed to be a douche bag, especially towards Kimberly. But, what if he was was just a rebellious rogue instead? What if this time they got rid of spell-casting and have Tommy simply be a wild, rogue Ranger?
The creators have hinted that the movie version of Tommy is aimed to be more rebellious than his original counterpart. With this idea in mind, he could be a person who simply becomes drunk on the power itself and is aiming to take down the Rangers. The film could then have a new villain to replace Rita or even see Rita return with new allies, forcing the Rangers to join forces. With how drastically different the characters were portrayed compared to their original counterparts, it is a possibility the Green Ranger could see a new origin also.
7. For Movies 2 And 3: Not New Zords, Just The Rest Of Them
With the Green Ranger pretty much confirmed for the sequel, we will naturally want to see the Dragonzord when he arrives. With how they showed a new formation for the Megazord in the movie, we can assume the same could happen when the Dragonzord makes its debut. The Dragonzord was capable of combining with the Sabertoothed Tiger, Triceratops and Mastodon to create its own Megazord. Could they use new combinations including the Tyrannosaurus Zord and Pterodactyl Zord?
It could also combine with the Ranger's Megazord to give it more fire power, but this formation was rarely used. Some fans also hope the Rangers might also get a Zord upgrade themselves, but they are forgetting there is a seventh powerful Zord that could appear in the movies: Titanus the Carrier Zord.
The Rangers could combine to Titanus to be an ultimate force against evil. We could see the spaceship/command center that houses Zordon revealed to be Titanus. We never really saw the full ship, so it could be much bigger than we expect. However, before the Rangers get new Zords, they need to complete the Dinozord collection. They could introduce new combination options and diversity in both adding the Dragonzord and Titanus.
6. For Movie 2: The Power Weapons
While the Power Sword appeared in the movie, the other weapons did not. This is not just limited to just the Power Lance, Power Daggers, Power Bow and Power Axe, as even the Rangers' sidearms were absent from the movie. Their sidearms had the ability to go from a blade mode to a pistol mode, which they could use diversely in battle.
For the movie, their own personal weapons could come from their bodies (like the Power Sword). Trini's hands could become a pair of short blades, Kimberly's bow could emerge from her wrists, Zack have a heave axe blade from his arms and Billy could have a trident extend from his arms.
Angewomon from Digimon, is a prime example of how weaponry can cleverly appear out of nothing. One area that was lacking in the Power Rangers movie was a lengthy battle on the ground, as more attention given to the Rangers in their Zords. Hopefully, the next movie will include more fighting scenes and the Rangers having to access to weaponry they never knew they could.
5. For Movies 2 And 3: New Movie Counterparts To Other OG Television Characters
One area the new movies never capitalized on was new versions of characters from the show beyond the Rangers themselves. One pair that could be added is Bulk and Skull. During the second series, the pair went on a mission to expose the Ranger's true identities. This would be the most modern interpretation for the characters — a pair of students who are aiming to expose the truth using modern technology such as smart phones and internet at their disposal. Added characters like Bulk and Skull would also allow fans to follow citizens from Angel Grove in the movie franchise also.
In the show, Bulk and Skull joined the junior police force of Angel Grove (to impress girls). With the movie taking a more serious route, the pair could see exposing the Rangers is not what they should be doing. Them joining the junior police force could be motivated by them seeing it as a way to help the Rangers, such as getting people to safety during attacks on Angel Grove.

4. For Movie 4 Or 5: Unexpected Villains
While many would hope for Lord Zedd to appear (and he likely will), another option they could have is Lord Drakkon from the Power Rangers comics. In an alternate world where Rita won with the help of the Green Ranger, the world was conquered and the Power Rangers were defeated. His history is the same as the original Green Ranger (Tommy Oliver), except for when Jason manage to help free him from Rita's evil spell during their final battle.
Rather than join the Power Rangers and Zordon, he fled back to Rita and continued to fight for her. From this point on, the pair took over the world a city at a time, until the point hit where the mass population supported Rita and her Green Ranger.
In a final battle with against Zordon, Tommy breached the command center and stopped Jason from becoming the new, even more powerful Ranger. In a final showdown, Tommy defeated Jason once and for all and stole the new power for himself. He then quickly destroyed all the Rangers' Zords and defeated them, ending Zordon and his Rangers forever. Of course, he also has his own unique Zord — the Black Dragon. It is formidable as it can alter its size and absorb other Rangers' powers.
You could see how they would create a scene early on showing the demise of Zordon and these Rangers, similar to how Zordon defeated Rita in the first movie. From there, Tommy would be sent by Rita to the Rangers' world to conquer Earth. This movie would most likely be better much further down the franchise, perhaps around the fourth or fifth, but it would have an added bonus.
3. Movie 4 Or 5: Evil Power Rangers
One thing the evil Lord Drakkon has is an army of Ranger Sentries at his disposal. Evil Rangers are something fans love to see, with the Psycho Rangers from Power Rangers In Space still being highly popular with the fans. So far in the comics we have seen the Mastodon Sentries act as ground paratroops, Tyrannosaurus Sentries act as elite guards to Lord Drakkon, Pterodactyl Sentries for long-range sniping attacks and the Sabertooth Sentries, who appear to be designed for close-combat situations.
The movie would be a massive alteration from the others in the franchise if they went down the route of evil Rangers from an alternate universe. Fans would see nothing but action as military-style Rangers invade the Rangers' world, lead by an alternate version of one of their own. It could also be the movie that acts as a doorway to allow them to change the source of the Rangers' powers to combat the threat of fighting their own powers; perhaps linking to the Zeo Crystals themselves and introduce the movie style for Power Rangers Zeo.
2. Movie 4 Or 5: Alien Rangers
Alien Rangers have been known to pop up in the #PowerRangers franchise. Or, should I say, there have been many Rangers not from Earth. To date there are:
- The Alien Rangers: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
- Trey: Power Rangers Zeo
- Blue Senturion and The Phantom Ranger: Power Rangers Turbo
- Andros and Zane: Power Rangers In Space
- Maya, Karone and Magna Defender: Power Rangers Lost Galaxy
- Trip: Power Rangers Time Force
- Doggy Cruger and Kat Manx: Power Rangers SPD
- Tyzonn: Power Rangers Operation Overdrive
- Orion: Power Rangers Super Megaforce
- Zenowing: Power Rangers Super Dino Charge
Rangers of alien origin are not uncommon in the franchise, and technically Zordon and Rita have already been established in the movie as Rangers from outer space. With the Rangers' powers being alien in origin in the movie, it is not crazy to consider there being more Rangers out there. The movie creators wouldn't even have to limit to ones from the show; they could create a brand new team of Rangers from the same world as Zordon and shock us all with a different line of colors, perhaps Orange, Purple, Aqua, Grey, Silver or Gold.
1. For Movie 6: The Saga Could Continue — Origin Story
As seen in the new movie, both Rita and Zordon are established as past Green and Red Rangers. One option the creators have is an origin story of their team. We could see how their team was formed and they could have even more fun with color lineups of the Rangers. To date, we have never had a male Pink Ranger or a female Black Ranger.
Their have also been two female Red Rangers in the franchise, the evil A Squad Red Ranger in Power Rangers SPD and the Red Samurai Ranger, Lauren Shiba, from Power Rangers Super Samurai.
We have had glimpses of a female Black Ranger when the Super Megaforce Pink Ranger would use either the Black Aquitian Ranger Key or the Black RPM Ranger Key. We never saw any male Rangers use a Pink Ranger Key. With how fans loved Rita being the first female Green Ranger, having the first male Pink Ranger could go down with fans on an epic level. The movie could also link other aspects of the movie franchise, which could lead to some form of cinematic universe. If they were to introduce a team of Alien Rangers, they could feature them in a space-themed origin story of Zordon and Rita's team of Rangers.
There Is So Much Potential
Which how much history there is to Power Rangers, the potential for the film series is endless. What would you like to see them do in the future movies? What would you change or like to see explored further?
