Now that the trailer for The Fate Of The Furious has finally been released, many fans have been left shocked as the latest installment in The Fast & The Furious franchise looks to be filled with multiple plot twists. Fans are still trying to figure out what will unfold in the new sequel with so many questions that have yet to be answered. Here is a list of five things to expect in the all-new, turbo-charged sequel.
5. A New Threat Has Arrived
It looks like in the latest sequel the crew is going to have to face off against an even deadlier enemy in the form of Cipher, played by Charlize Theron. Not much was said about the character other than the fact that she is described as "the definition of high-tech terrorism," as said by Mr. Nobody in the trailer. What makes Theron's character an even deadlier threat is that she seems to have an arsenal of high-tech weaponry unlike anything we have ever seen. However, the most important part about her character is that she seems to have been able to do something none of us would have ever expected.
4. Dominic Toretto Has Gone Rogue (Or So We Think)
Hands down the most shocking part of the trailer was the twist, which included Dominic Toretto turning on Hobbs and the rest of the crew. Any fan of the franchise knows that throughout all the films Toretto was always about family despite his life of crime. It seems that Dom has gone rogue and has sided with Cipher. As shocked as fans were about the massive plot twist, let's step back a bit. How do we exactly know Dom has actually "turned his back" on his family and isn't doing this out of fear of what could happen if he doesn't side with Cipher? Let's be honest: We all thought that Letty had turned her back on her family after seeing the Furious 6 trailer when she pulled a gun on Dom.
My bet is that Cipher has Dom on a tight leash, threatening to take away everything he cares about unless he works with her to retrieve whatever it is she is going after. If I'm wrong and Dom has actually gone rogue, then expect a serious turn of events in this film.
3. Hobbs Must Now Lead The Crew — With A Little Help From Deckard Shaw
During the mission Hobbs was leading the crew on, Dom turned on him, leading to Hobbs's incarceration (but not for long). A staged riot occurs, which leads to a face off between Hobbs and Shaw. Mr. Nobody has now set up Hobbs to lead the crew with the help of an enemy in the form of Deckard Shaw.
This is going to be very difficult for the crew to cope with, considering the fact that it was Shaw who murdered Han in Tokyo (as seen in the post-credits scene of Furious 6). One thing you definitely should not expect is Shaw changing for the better just because he is now teaming with Hobbs. High chances are that although Shaw is teaming with Hobbs, Shaw might also have a secret agenda of his own.
2. The Globe Trotting Continues — Bigger And Badder!
As seen in the trailer, Hobbs and the crew will continue their international pursuit, this time going through Cuba, New York and Iceland. It seems like the real pursuit will be throughout New York and Iceland. Judging from the trailer, it seems like Dom's first face off with Hobbs and the crew will be in the streets of New York, with the third act culminating in Iceland.
1. Helen Mirren Will Be The Next Threat As Well As The Driving Force That Leads To 'Fast 9' & '10'
One interesting detail to come out about The Fate Of the Furious was the addition of English actress Helen Mirren. Although she has been cast in the new sequel, many fans have been coming up with theories as to who her character is and what her purpose will be in the new film.
My bet is that Helen Mirren will be introduced as a character appearing to aid in the capture of Cipher, only to be later revealed as the mother of Deckard and Owen Shaw. I honestly wouldn't be a bit surprised if Helen Mirren's character has her own private army to break out Shaw. One thing is for sure — whatever the aftermath of The Fate Of The Furious will be, expect that aftermath to have a massive impact that will effect whatever unfolds in the next two sequels.
