With all the recent controversy surrounding Ben Affleck’s solo Batman film, it’s nice to know that two of DC’s cinematic universe films are just over the horizon. #WonderWoman hits theaters on June 2 while #JusticeLeaguePart1 follows suit in November. DC is hard at work trying to get the wheels turning as it’s imperative that these two films are major hits for the franchise. If Wonder Woman can live up to the incredible trailers we’ve been given, then perhaps Justice League can, too.
After the release of last years Justice League Comic-Con teaser trailer, fans have been impatiently waiting for an official trailer. Well, fans of the #DCEU don’t have to wait for much longer as Zack Snyder recently took to his Vero account teasing that it would be coming very soon:
“The Trailer is all part of the marketing and there is a set schedule for release. It’s coming soon, don’t worry.”
How soon? We’ll just have to wait and see. But while we're waiting, let's take a stab at what we should expect to see.
1. Ben Affleck Leading The Charge
“I failed him in life. I won’t fail him in death.” Those words were spoken by Bruce Wayne himself at the conclusion of last years #BatmanvSupermanDawnofJustice shortly after Superman’s funeral. We got a good look at Ben Affleck taking charge in the teaser trailer while trying to recruit a team with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman by his side. The teaser showed a beaten up/wiser #Batman going around and recruiting the other metahumans. We should easily expect to see more of this in the official trailer.
2. Some More Added Humor
If there’s something the DC needs now more than ever, it’s that balance of tone. DC has primarily been known for making more serious and gritty movies, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. The teaser trailer gave us a glimpse at some of the humor we can expect in the movie. Should it take anyone by surprise that Ezra Miller will be providing most of the humor in the film? I think not.
#TheFlash has always been part of the comedic relief in the Justice League ensemble and the teaser definitely shows it. If Zack Snyder can find a way to balance out the humor along with the serious elements in the movie, then this could certainly be a huge tonal shift for the DCEU moving forward.
3. A Better Look At The Main Villain
In a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice deleted scene (and later included in the Ultimate Edition), fans got their first look at the future #JusticeLeague antagonist, Steppenwolf, played by Game of Thrones actor Ciarán Hind. Steppenwolf’s mission was recently revealed in a new plot synopsis for the film. Part of the synopsis reads:
“They [The Justice League] face off against Steppenwolf (Hinds), the herald and second-in-command to alien warlord Darkseid, who is charged by Darkseid with hunting down three artifacts hidden on Earth.”
Those three artifacts are of course in reference to the three Mother Boxes hinted at in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with one of them actually fusing together with fellow Justice League member, Cyborg. The Mother Boxes have many uses from the comics including the ability to create a force field, project or absorb powerful shock blasts, telepathy, and rearranging molecular structures among other abilities.
The trailer should give us a better look at the main villain taking on the Justice League. We know Steppenwolf is only the appetizer with the main course being Darkseid. The Justice League better be prepared for his arrival, because they are going to be in one difficult fight.
4. The Hall of Justice
The Hall of Justice has been a mainstay for the entire #JusticeLeague. Throughout the years, the Hall of Justice has undergone many changes but it still served as the primary headquarters for the team. With Batman and Wonder Woman out to find the remaining metahumans, it only makes sense for them to have a base of operations. The Hall could play a pivotal role moving forward as they will need somewhere to come up with a plan to defend the Earth from Steppenwolf and his invading Parademons. Fingers crossed we can get a glimpse of this base in the official trailer.
5. Our Heroes Teaming Up
We have been waiting for years to see the members of the Justice League come together in live action, and on November 17 will we officially be granted our wish. Getting to see Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg on the big screen is every comic book fan's dream that will finally become a reality.
A few glimpses here and there of our heroes teaming up and fighting together is all we ask for as fans. If the marketing team can give us a little bit of the flavor we can expect to see out of the action, then we should be in for a wild ride. Here’s hoping that the film can live up to the trailers expectations.
Those are all the points I hope to see out of the first official trailer. But what would you like to see? Sound off in the comments section below!
