The recent trailer reveal for Power Rangers delivered an assortment of images of the #PowerRangers in action for the first time. Not only that, but the new trailer also provides us with our first glimpses at the Power Rangers' Zords, Goldar, and the Putty Patrollers — all staples of the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers TV show:
The Trailer For 'Power Rangers' Sees Rangers Go Head-To-Head With A Giant Goldar
The recently released trailer was expected to debut new footage, but no one expected to see the final act of the movie emphasized so heavily in the trailer.
If it wasn't clear in the trailer, the battle between the Power Rangers' Zords and Goldar, the giant, golden monster will likely be the concluding action sequence of the movie. Since the Power Rangers resort to assembling their Megazord to fight Goldar, it practically tells us how the movie is going to end.
As for the rest of the footage in the trailer, a few of the scenes appear to tease moments that will undoubtedly have fans excited. So, here are the noteworthy moments you might have missed in the recently unveiled trailer for Power Rangers.
7. Rita Repulsa Assembles Her Army Of Stone/ Putty Patrollers
One of the more brief screenshots in the trailer sees Rita Repulsa summoning her army of stone henchmen to her side. Soon after, we can see that she commands them to reign down destruction on Angel Grove.
These stone patrollers are awfully reminiscent of the Putty Patrollers in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, but these henchmen don't appear to be as fragile as their MMPR counterparts.
The new version of the Putty Patrollers are made up of concrete and metal debris, whereas the Putty Patrollers on MMPR were simply actors in grey spandex. These new Putty Patrollers should present a decent challenge for the newest team of Power Rangers.
6. These Aren't The First Power Rangers
Something else that might have gone past a few viewers was the dialogue from Zordon (Bryan Cranston), which confirmed there were more iterations of the Power Rangers team before the reboot takes place.
"The Power Rangers were a legion of warriors. You have to become those warriors" — Zordon
He tells them of the Rangers' history, along with making it abundantly clear that they're not the first team of Power Rangers to come together.
5. The Zords Will Combine In Different Variations
If you're familiar with the Power Rangers franchise, then you know the giant mechanical beasts the Rangers ride in are known as Zords, and each individual Zord can join together to become one giant robot known as Megazord. However, it appears as if the Power Rangers reboot will depict the Zords assembling into various combinations.
In a very brief screenshot before the presumed final act, Red Ranger Jason can be seen piloting his T-Rex Zord. When the camera pans over to the outside of his Zord, there's something a bit different about it:
The additional attachment on top of the T-Rex Zord appears to be some sort of wing-span that closely resembles the Pink Ranger's Zord.
This seems to imply that the Power Rangers' Zords will combine into different variations rather than the common combination, which turns all five Zords into the massive Megazord.
4. Does The Pink Ranger Die?
Going back to the screenshots of the Pink Ranger flying into action. We can see that Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, leads the assault on Goldar.
Unfortunately, a split second later, it look like Goldar completely demolishes the Pink Ranger's Zord mid-flight, possibly killing the Pink Ranger.
Most viewers probably aren't expecting to see a major character death take place, but if the Power Rangers reboot is as gritty as its presumed to be, then Kimberly, the new Pink Ranger, could meet an untimely end as the movie nears its conclusion.
Reasonably speaking, it doesn't seem like Kimberly will meet her death in this movie, but the destruction of her Zord might have future repercussions that actually benefit the Power Rangers.
In the second season of MMPR, the Power Rangers' first set of Zords were destroyed, which eventually resulted in the Power Rangers getting new Zords. If Power Rangers takes a similar route, then the destruction of the Pink Ranger's Zord in the feature film could set up MMPR's second generation of Zords to debut in the sequel.
3. Rita Repulsa Will Use The Green Power Gem In Her Possession To Create Her Own Ranger Suit
Rita Repulsa, the main antagonist of Power Rangers, appears to have a slightly different origin than her counterpart from MMPR. Instead of solely being an intergalactic villain, the new version of Rita Repulsa will gain her power from the same source as the Power Rangers.
The Power Rangers' abilities come from the Power Gems being in their possession. The Power Gems are the alien artifacts that grant the normal teenagers superhuman abilities, and from the looks of Rita Repulsa's staff, she has a Power Gem in her possession as well.
In multiple screenshots of the trailer, Rita Repulsa has the staff with the glowing Green Power Gem in it. The Green Gem in the staff appears to glow a more radiant color when Rita begins summoning her Stone / Putty Patrollers to her side.
During a few select screenshots, we can see Rita Repulsa invading Trini, the Yellow Ranger's home. Trini is pressed up against a wall while Rita Repulsa begins to suit up.
When the scene starts up in the trailer, Rita is already outfitted in her green-colored armor but towards the conclusion of the scene, the scales on Rita's armor begin to grow and cover more of her body, suggesting that Rita has an armor similar to those of the Power Rangers.
Alpha-5, the robot butler of Zordon's command center was only briefly spotted in the trailer. While you might have heard Alpha-5 shoot off a quick one-liner, we should expect more of Alpha-5 in the movie.
1. There's A Massive Complex In Zordon's Buried Spaceship
The trailer starts off with a few cuts of the five teenagers before they become Power Rangers. As the trailer progresses, each screenshot leads to them finally meeting Zordon inside his buried spaceship, which turns out to be quite massive in size.
There's no basis for Zordon's command center having any additional chambers or rooms in the original MMPR, so this scene is of some interest.
Aside from the main chamber, the rest of the walkways could lead to extra sections of the spaceship for the Rangers to utilize in their training. A small segment of the trailer displayed the troubled teens experiencing a bit of training as they become Power Rangers.
Now that we've seen the newly donned Power Rangers training in a cave adjacent to Zordon's spaceship, that cave area could feasibly be one of the additional chambers seen in the ship.
As for the other chambers within Zordon's spaceship, they could hold any variety of alien artifacts, including Zordon's body before he became a sentient being. Although, the most reasonable conclusion is that one walkway will lead to the main chamber where Zordon resides, another will lead to the Rangers' training area, and the other will be where the Rangers' Zords are housed.
Those were just some of the brief moments you might have missed in the trailer debut for Power Rangers. Were there any other brief shots that you spotted and we missed? If so, let us know in the comments section below.
