This has been a good year for rock. Along with 2017 releases from Nine Inch Nails, AFI, Korn and Foo Fighters, there is another longstanding band that is making a resurgence lately, and their frontman just so happens to be one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood right now.
We last heard new music from #JaredLeto and his band, #ThirtySecondsToMars, in 2013 when they released their fourth studio album, Love Lust Faith + Dreams. Since then, they've toured the world and Leto won an Oscar. After signing with a new record label, the band started teasing their fanbase, the Echelon, regarding new music right away. They even announced in late 2016 that we would get Mars at some point in 2017.
On the last day of the band's recent Camp Mars festival in Malibu, California, the Echelon finally got an answer as to when new music will debut. Thirty Seconds to Mars dropped this teaser on social media:
Well, the long wait now is finally over as the official premiere of the new Thirty Seconds to Mars track, "Walk On Water," is upon us. The band surprised fans by putting together a lyric video with footage from their "A Day in the Life of America" challenge, which was filmed worldwide on July 4, 2017. The song is also available via Spotify and iTunes.
I was lucky enough to attend Camp Mars this year and one of the surprises we got was Leto debuting the song nine days before the official drop. All I really have to say is that the song is just as powerful now as it was the first time I heard it. They're really onto something with the lyrics; the song is quite relevant to the state of the U.S. right now. If "Walk On Water" is an indication of what is on the rest of the upcoming album, I think we're all in for a real treat.
If you like what you hear and are excited to see the return of Thirty Seconds to Mars, you can catch them performing "Walk On Water" at the MTV Video Music Awards on August 27, 2017.
