Avatar was obviously a game changer on the technological front, but it's hard to deny it left a lot of hardcore sci-fi and enthusiasts a little underwhelmed. While Pandora was a pretty spectacular world, I'm not sure how it will hold up compared to the rest of the director's legacy. However, that's also why we have Avatar 2, Avatar 3, and Avatar 4 coming out starting in 2016. After utilizing tech that's become commonplace, it'll be interesting to see how Cameron and his team of writers evolve the story of Jake Sully and the Na'vi.

If you're still a bit ambivalent about it all, maybe concept work (from 1976!) will help you get a little more excited. Granted, this isn't for Avatar in any kind of way, but Cameron gave this fun quote about his work: "The thing that’s interesting about it is that I’ve already got a tall, hot blue girl in that movie." Take a look:

I have to say, it still doesn't get me nearly as excited as the Avatar-themed nightclub:
