Thor has always struggled to defeat his brother Loki, the Asgardian god of mischief, despite wielding both a magical hammer and a set of impressive guns to match. Even when it looks like the god of thunder has won, everyone's favorite Marvel villain still finds a sneaky way to emerge victorious.
The last time we saw Loki, he was sitting pretty on the throne of Asgard, impersonating his father, Odin, whose specific whereabouts remain unknown. It's been four long years since Thor: The Dark World ended this way, but actor #TomHiddleston has just let slip how Loki will finally be defeated, and it seems that a certain doctor's involvement will be key...
While walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes, Hiddleston revealed that Doctor Strange's role could be even more pivotal to Thor: Ragnarok than we realized:
"I am in no position to question the Marvel powers that be, but let's put it this way. Doctor Strange has kind of very intensely cerebral, time-bending powers. Last time we saw, at the end of Thor: The Dark World...Loki is on the throne, what happened to Odin? So, maybe Doctor Strange has to help out with that particular conundrum."
Unless Hiddleston has suddenly decided to mislead fans like the God of Mischief himself, it sounds like the actor is actually telling the truth, revealing a huge Thor: Ragnarok spoiler months before the film is set for release.
Up to this point, Doctor Strange's involvement has remained somewhat ambiguous — although a brief plot synopsis released by The Official Disney Fan Club certainly implied that he would play an important role in the film:
“Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new.”
Fans presumed that this meant #DoctorStrange would be actively involved in some key action scenes, possibly even stepping in to end the inevitable grudge match between #Thor and #Hulk that's set to take place in Ragnarok at some point. However, this is the first time that reference has been specifically made to how the Odin problem will be solved.
With his ability to see through magical disguises and bend time itself, it makes perfect sense that Doctor Strange will be the one to reveal Loki's deception and help save Thor's father.

While it's exciting to hear that #BenedictCumberbatch will play a more prominent role in the #MCU moving forward, we can't help but worry that Doctor Strange's dimension-spanning abilities may become a kind of deus ex machina, fixing any problem that our heroes might face with a few simple gestures.
It's not hard to imagine that the Sorcerer Supreme will be the one who brings Thor and Hulk back to Earth ready in time for #InfinityWar. Does this mean that he'll also be the one to defeat Thanos?
