When you mention beloved childhood franchises and in the same sentence, the response is usually the same. Grown men clasping their heads and moaning in discontent. That's certainly what happened to me when I heard Bay was attached to produce on the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot.
However, TNMT co-creator Kevin Eastman has arrived to calm us all down. At the recent Phoenix Comicon he faced the fan firing squad and answered a few questions about Bay's involvement in the directed movie. When asked how he felt about Bay's involvement, he replied:
He's been nothing but amazingly respectful, and Jonathan Liebesman's been the director... I've seen the script. I've seen the design of the characters. It's fantastic. The story has all the right turtleisms. They're in the sewers. I’m very excited to see the movie.
He also reiterated that the turtles are NOT aliens from outer space, which was suggested by Bay earlier in the films development. We kind of already knew that, but the more reassurance we get, the better.
Eastman also added one extra exciting tidbit. When asked about how he envisioned the fight scenes, he said:
We want to do something better than like Raid: Redemption.
Wow. That's certainly setting the bar pretty high. Eastman also went on to explain that Paramount are seeing TMNT as their own version of The Avengers. From the sounds of it, they have very big plans for this franchise.
What do you think? Could the heroes in a half-shell take on the major superheroes at their own game? Give me your opinion below.
