With 's Oblivion just under his belt, and 's alien war movie Edge of Tomorrow in the works, you'd think would've had enough of sci-fi for the meanwhile...

But, perhaps the whole Scientology thing involving alien interventions in earthly events has rubbed off on the man. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the thesp is going all sci-fi again for Yukikaze - the upcoming alien attack movie based on a series of novels by Japanese author Chohei Kamayashi.

So, what can we expect this time around?

The premise sees a planetary defense force beat back an invasion of aliens using a wormhole over Antarctica, setting up bases on the aliens' planet. Yukikaze is the name of the advanced reconnaissance fighter plane the hero uses on his missions.

Does this sound basically like every Tom Cruise movie ever? I remember when sci-fi had deep philosophical and moral implications for the characters. Here's hoping...

There's no word on when the movie will be released but, seeing as Cruise still has Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation in the works as well as the possible Jack Reacher 2, don't expect to see it any time soon.

Does Cruise vs aliens (again) sound like something you'd like to set your peepers on, or is it not your thing? Let us know below.
