Everybody knows Tom Hardy is one of the best actors in Hollywood, but did you know he's one of the busiest? The British actor has a staggering 12 movies on the way, ranging from biographies and dramas to actions and video-game adaptations. This is an impressive feat, seeing as he's currently got a critically acclaimed TV show on FX right now (Taboo). Let's to take a look at the 12 projects Hardy has in store for us!

1. 'Dunkirk'

Release Date: June 21st, 201

First up on our list is probably the one I'm most excited for. Tom Hardy is reuniting with director Christopher Nolan for the 3rd time on Dunkirk, after collaborating with him on Inception and The Dark Knight Rises. This film will tell the true story of British forces embarking on a mission to evacuate their Allied troops from Dunkirk, France, in 1940. This film looks like a fantastic avenue for both Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy to explore, and I can't wait to see what it's like!

2. 'Star Wars: The Last Knight' [Rumoured]

Release Date: 15th of December 2017

I know what some of you are thinking right now — Tom Hardy's in The Last Jedi? Well, we think so anyway. Ever since May last year, news articles have been questioning Tom Hardy on his rumoured role in the latest movie, and he's been quite hush-hush about the whole project. He was asked once again back in January by The Hollywood Reporter about his involvement in the movie, and this was his suspect response:

"I don’t know if I can even say that"..."Where did you hear that?"

Sounds to me like he's for sure going to be in The Last Jedi!

3. 'Fonzo'

Release Date: TBA

One of the most promising movies on Tom Hardy's roster is the crime-biography Fonzo, which will focus on Al Capone's life as a 47 year-old. This gangster flick will focus on the troubling end to Al Capone's life, including his dementia. So far, most of the cast list is still under wraps, but we do know Josh Trank (Fantastic Four, Chronicle) will be writing and directing the project.

4. 'Mad Max: The Wasteland'

Release Date: TBA

With the success of Mad Max: Fury Road, it's no surprise that Tom Hardy is returning to the octane-fuelled action franchise as Mad Max. Fury Road was an insane hit with both fans and critics, and even notched up 6 Oscar Wins in 2016! I'm super excited to see where visionary director George Miller takes us with the fifth movie in the franchise.

5. 'Samarkand'

Release Date: TBA

This drama follows the story of a veteran who's suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, and how he tries to fit back into society. Expect Tom Hardy to give a riveting performance telling the everyday story of a solider with PTSD trying to live a normal life after serving his country. So far no other actors have been cast, but we do know Greg Williams (Tell Tale) will be writing and directing.

6. 'Shackleton'

Release Date: TBA

Shackleton is yet another gripping drama Tom Hardy has in store for us in the coming years. This story follows the British explorer Ernest Shackleton, who led multiple expeditions to the Antarctic. The talented writer Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, Frank and The Men Who Stare at Goats) is penning the script — given his Oscar nomination for Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, we can assume this project is in safe hands.

7. Splinter Cell

Release Date: TBA

Splinter Cell is one of the most anticipated movies on our list, primarily because it's yet another video game adaptation. We know they don't always live up to expectations (Resident Evil, Hitman, Assassins Creed) but I think this film must be good if Tom Hardy signed up to it. We also know that director Doug Liman has signed on to helm this movie, which is a good sign, because he's directed The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow and Mr and Mrs Smith. We can expect some top-class stealth, brutal fighting and big set-pieces from this movie.

Release Date: TBA

Not much has been said about this movie in the past few years, but it sounds too good to discredit it. Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) has signed on to helm the project, and it sounds like just her kind of movie. It follows the story of a Bangladeshi Air Force officer looking to make his way in the US, only to be shot my an American terrorist who has a vengeance against Muslims following the aftermath of September 11th. This is based on the book The True American: Murder and Mercy in Texas by Anand Giridharadas. Sounds to me like this movie has got Oscar nominee written all over it!

9. Triple Frontier

Release Date: TBA

Triple Frontier is an action-adventure movie is set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. It's being directed by J.C. Chandor, who is best know for his movies; A Most Violent Year and All Is Lost. So far the cast includes Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum, who should make a great duo!

10. Unreasonable Behaviour

Release Date: TBA

Unreasonable Behaviour is another biography-drama that Tom Hardy is set to star in in the near future. This one follows the story of British war photographer Don McCullin, who worked for the Sunday Times through the '70s and '80s. So far, there's no other cast mates nor a director, but we do know that Gregory Burke is writing the adaptation for Don McCullin's biography. Gregory Burke has experience in the war genre as he wrote the 2014 hit '71 starring Jack O'Conell and Sam Reid.

11. Untitled Tom Hardy Outlaw Project

'Mad Max' [Credit: Roadshow Entertainment]

Release Date: TBA

This intriguing action-drama sees Tom Hardy as a Vietnam veteran who returns home to San Francisco and transforms himself into the leader of California's most notorious biker club. I don't know about you, but I can totally see Tom Hardy as a biker-gang leader. The screenplay for this movie is being written by Mark L. Smith, also known for penning The Revenant and Vacancy. This one sounds like it could be one of Tom Hardy's best!

12. Untitled African Animal Poaching Project

Release Date: TBA

In 2017, animal poaching is a relevant topic in global dicussions, but it's not one that's discussed enough. Hopefully this movie can shed some light on the horrible activitity that is poaching, and I'm sure it will get seen with Tom Hardy starring in it. It follows the story of a former Special Forces soldier working with local rangers in Africa to protect their animals from poachers. Sheldon Turner, writer of X-Men First Class and Up in the Air has signed on to write the story.

As you can see, Tom Hardy is quite the busy man and judging by the line-up we've just discussed, we'll be seeing a lot more of him soon. Some of these sound like fun movies, like Splinter Cell and Triple Frontier. But some of the movies on this list seem like genuine contenders! I'm super excited to get a look at most of these.

Let me know which Tom Hardy movie you're most excited for below!
