Remember that time Storm and Negasonic Teenage Warhead teamed up to go on a mass murder spree, all in pursuit of internet infamy? While that premise sounds like something that came out of Wade Wilson's deranged mind, the truth is that fans can soon see Alexandra Shipp and Brianna Hildebrand do exactly that in Tragedy Girls, breaking out of the X-Men and Deadpool franchises respectively.

Director Tyler MacIntyre's horror-comedy follows two best friends named Sadie and McKayla who are obsessed with building a following on social media. Rather than just posting awkward selfies with the hashtag 'likeforlikes', the pair take things a step further when they kidnap Lowell, a local serial killer and force him to become their mentor in all things murder. As the girls become more and more famous, racking up more likes with each hilariously brutal kill, Lowell escapes, throwing a spanner in their far from flawless plan.

Following the premiere of Tragedy Girls at SXSW, reviews have been extremely positive so far. Most notably, Bloody Disgusting's Trace Thurman stated that "Gorehounds will find plenty to love here" and that fans shouldn't "miss this viciously funny film!"

While Tragedy Girls hasn't been picked up for international distribution just yet, we're confident that the hilariously ferocious performances from Alexandra Shipp and Brianna Hildebrand will ensure that the slasher picks up a wider audience soon. and are just the tip of the iceberg for these impressive young actresses, who channel equal parts Scream and Heathers in the film, with a dash of Mean Girls thrown in for good measure.
