When Belle was screened discreetly during the Toronto International Film Festival last month, it prompted speculation that the film may be a late entrant to the awards race. However, Belle will now be released in May 2014, although Fox Searchlight is reportedly using the release of prominent race-themed epic 12 Years A Slave to publicize the film.

Belle is set in the wigs and frocks era, where a Royal Navy Admiral's insistence on bringing up his illegitimate mixed-race child within the family causes social friction, despite his stirring claim that 'what is right shall never be impossible.' The trailer paints the movie as a deeply moving, beautifully produced experience. Take a look below.
