(WARNING: The following contains potential — albeit largely speculative — plot SPOILERS for the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight. Proceed with whatever level of caution that suggests to you is wise, human.)

Now, while may not be quite the most topical -starring sci-fi epic right now (take a bow, Westworld) it's still earned a fair chunk of the internet's attention, especially in the wake of its shiny new trailer. Which makes sense, of course, seeing as the trailer was filled with precisely the sort of explosion-heavy mayhem and nifty gun-pointing that the franchise is known (and sometimes loved) for:

As it turns out, though, that trailer might just be hiding a pretty huge reveal. Y'see...

'Transformers: The Last Knight' May Feature An Unexpected Villain

That, at least, is what the film's producer, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, recently suggested during an interview with Collider, arguing that we're set for...

"A surprise, I think, as you discover who the villain is. So in that respect, that is a very different kind of Decepticon form, if you would. I think that the understanding of the mythology, as you begin to unveil it, you’ll understand just how big the jeopardy that we’re going to face is."

The big, -sized question that raises, though?

Just Who Is This Mysterious Villain?

Well, the internet, of course, has a theory: It's .

Y'see, with both and apparently in need of some resurrection, the franchise might just be in need of the revival-happy Big Bad — and since he's typically to be found floating through space like some kind of robotic Galactus, it would certainly make sense if "he" were the one to bring Optimus back to life. Unicron would also, of course, very much fit Di Bonaventura's description of "a very different kind of Decepticon form," seeing as he's less a robot in disguise than a horrifyingly over-powered existential threat.

Plus, of course, it seems as though we've probably already seen him in the trailer:

So, y'know, there's that.

Still want more on Transformers: The Last Knight, and the questions its trailer raised? Never fear, we've got you covered right here.

In the meantime, though, what do you think? Will Unicron be The Last Knight's Big Bad? Let us know below!
