Oh, man, the internet. What would we ever do without your completely rational responses to casting decisions?
And by "completely rational responses," I mean "tendency to completely lose your shit before you even give a second of calm and unbiased thought to breaking news." With the bombshell announcement that Oscar-winning actor-director has officially been cast as Batman to star opposite 's Superman, replacing growl-voiced as the Caped Crusader, the internet lost its collective mind (again). But let me just repeat that above phrase up there for the people who are still inexplicably hung up on Daredevil from a decade ago: Oscar-winning actor-director. Just sayin'.
But the internet (mostly Twitter), reacted, well...about as you'd expect, with tweets ranging from positive and level-headed, to the reactionary, to the hilarious. Someone even already started a petition to have him removed as Batman, because, you know, rational. Here are the best tweets, courtesy of CBM and Twitter.
First, The Batman himself:

Affleck will be awesome. They don't just hand huge / iconic parts out at random. (Except Rampage Jackson in "The A Team". That was awful.)— Stephen Amell (@amellywood) August 23, 2013

And the one Tweet that sums up exactly how I feel about it all:
Weirdly, I think I will SEE THE MOVIE FIRST before I decide if I like Ben Affleck as Batman.— Ron Marz (@ronmarz) August 23, 2013
And lastly, a gif from the man himself:
