The Joker is my all-time favorite character, and last year we got to see DC's latest on-screen iteration of the character in the form of Jared Leto in Suicide Squad. Like many fans, I don't feel like I can say if I liked him or not, purely because I didn't see enough of him to form a solid opinion on his performance. David Ayer, the Suicide Squad director himself, even blamed himself for not making the Joker the main villain in the film. Some might say it's too little too late, but I'm impressed that he admitted it, and I'm stoked to see what they do with the Joker next.
Everyone knows the Joker can be f*cked up, but some of his most bloodthirsty and demented moments have shocked even his most hardcore fans. Let's take a look at some of the most crazy things The Joker has done in the comics which would be awesome to see in future DCEU movies!
1. Murdering Sarah Essen
The first of The Joker's crazy moments on this list is from the storyline 'No Man's Land', in which an earthquake plunged Gotham into chaos (which suited The Joker to a tee). In this brutal storyline, The #Joker kidnapped dozens of babies during the crisis and threatened to kill them all, only for Sarah Essen to try save them. The Joker threw a baby at her and shot her in the head while she caught the baby and killed her. Shortly after, The Joker got shot in the knee by Commissioner Gordon, but nothing could be done to save Sarah, whose horrific death showcased the Joker in his true crazy form.
It'd be really interesting seeing a Joker this crazy on-screen. I know Heath Ledger's Joker threatened to blow up a hospital in The Dark Knight, but there's something extra sinister about kidnapping dozens of babies and killing the person who tried to save them. I wonder; would he have shot #Batman had he turned up instead?
2. The Joker Skins Monty
One of the most f*cked up things the Joker has ever done must be the time he skinned his former associate, Monty, in the graphic novel Joker. For some context, this all happened because while The Joker wasn't running Gotham, Monty (above) climbed up the ranks in the city and eventually made Harley Quinn a stripper in his club. Joker didn't appreciate hearing this news upon his return, so he gave one of his most brutal punishments ever: skinning a man down to his flesh. Absolutely horrific.
For this to work in a movie, it would no doubt have to be R-rated, and although it might turn some viewers off, it would at least show how crazy the Joker is. I feel we haven't totally seen his brutality on the big screen yet, and general audiences haven't seen the darkest side of the Joker yet.
3. Torturing Commissioner Gordon in 'The Killing Joke'
This Joker story is one of the more well-known moments on this list, but for those who've never heard of this one, it's from The Killing Joke, one of the Joker's most iconic story-lines ever. Basically, the Joker shot Barbara Gordon (Commissioner Gordon's daughter), took pictures of her naked body and then tied Commissioner Gordon to a train showcasing all the photos. This is an iconic moment in #Batman's history, and it was brought to life in last year's animated version of 'The Killing Joke' — check it out below!
If #DC were to try this with Jared Leto's Joker, it could be iconic. One disadvantage of this storyline is that most fans know the end result — unless, of course, the filmmakers add a shocking twist. Either way, I could totally see Jared Leto's Joker doing something this psychotic in the movies.

4. Brutal Death of Jason Todd
I personally feel that this is the most brutal thing The Joker has ever done. Some of you may be thinking: but he skinned a guy! You're correct, but the fact that a young Jason Todd got beaten to death with a crowbar absolutes petrifies me. To think that this moment ever happened spins my mind, and really goes to show that the Joker is the most evil villain ever.
Seeing this on the big screen would be extremely hard to watch, but I feel we could see it sometime in a prequel showcasing a young Joker. DC has hinted that this may have happened with Robin's costume in Batman v Superman — check out the well-known easter-egg below.
5. He Skinned His Own Face!
During DC's 'New 52' run, The Joker did one of the craziest things ever — he got his face cut off by The Dollmaker, and had it re-stitched on. This menacing look has gone on to be quite an iconic part of DC's history. The thought of seeing Jared Leto's Joker recreate this storyline really gets me excited. For all my problems with Leto's portrayal of The Joker, I believe this is the story-line he could pull off the best!
Those of you who are fans of the TV show Gotham will certainly be familiar with this moment, as they recreated it in Season 3, in all its gory glory! An fantastic homage to iconic Joker moment.
6. He Split His Own Tongue in Half!
Another absolutely psychotic moment from The Joker came in the classic Batman R.I.P. storyline, that saw The Clown Prince of Crime split his own tongue in half! This type of grotesque self-harm is classic Joker, but as I've previously said, we've yet to see this kind of maniac in the DCEU, and Jared Leto would be a fantastic actor to introduce this sort of lunacy. General audiences will finally see just how deranged this character is!
7. Flying Glass Shards of Death...
We've spoken a lot about what the Joker has done to himself and specific people, but this instance from 'Lovers & Madmen' saw the crazed maniac fly a blimp over dozens of unsuspecting citizens. He released poisonous glass shards among them, killing hoardes of innocent people. As you can see in the picture, in classic Joker fashion, he's laughing while doing it. The most screwed up part of all this is that they all had grinning faces when they dropped dead.
I'm not saying this exact scene should happen in the DCEU, but something of this scale would be super cool. It doesn't have to be a blimp and glass shards — I just think something on the grand scale like this would be really cool to see.
Personally, I'd love to see a standalone Joker movie where we could really get a good look at the psychotic side of the Joker. Given the right script and a fucked-up storyline, Jared Leto could certainly be the right man for the job.
Let me know in the comments which story-line from this list you'd like to see. If you have one you prefer that's not on the list, let me know!
