It's hard to say that Universal is rolling the dice by basing a film on the Ouija board because, well, Ouija has no dice. But whatever guiding force convinced the studio this was a good idea, it is clear that they remain undeterred. In fact, according to THR, they have just cast their female star. from the A&E series Bates Motel has won the lead.
She will join male lead in this Universal/Blum House/Platinum Dunes co-production. Special Effects artist will make his directing debut with filming set to begin next week. The story centers on a group of teens trying to contact a dead classmate using the board...with terrifying results.
I'm sure Cooke's a fine actress, but I'm still scratching my head here. What I don't get is why Universal is persisting with making this film. Moving beyond the fact that it's based on a damn party game, there have been several horror films that center on the Ouija board. Spoiler alert, they're mostly awful.
What do you guys think?
