Speed is picking up on The Weinstein Company's hot YA adaption of Richelle Mead's bestselling novels, Vampire Academy. Deadline is reporting that the movie has added some more cast to it's already fast-growing list. The latest to join the teen vampire boarding school movie are (Blue Bloods) [pictured left] as nemesis Mia, (Shameless) [below, right] as Rose's buddy Mason, (White Buffalo) [below, left] as Jesse and (White Heat) as former teacher Sonya Karp.

These recent additions come on the heels of casting the main trio of characters Rose (), Lissa () and Dmitri (), as well as Bond girl as Headmistress Kirova, proving that that the producers and director want to keep things fresh with new, young talent.

In case you missed the YA paranormal romance bus to Vampire Academy, here's the synopsis of the first book in the series, on which the movie will be based:

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend
Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

Hopefully, the director and writer Daniel Waters will stick as close to the first book's original plot as they can, since VA fans are pretty loyal and protective of the series. What I really want to know is: Who will they cast for Eddie, Viktor Dashkov, Christian and Natalie? Looks like we will be getting some more news on this soon, so [[follow]] and get updates as they come in. [[poll]]
