The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is to be immortalized in comic book form. The actor, model, philanthropist and animal-lover is getting animated for a comic series titled Fame: Ian Somerhalder. The comic book will follow his acting career from Smallville to Lost as well as charting the environmental work he has undertaken in the wake of the BP oil spill in the Gulf.

So why did writer Michael L. Frizell choose as his comic book muse?

I knew little of the man beyond his turn as Boone in Lost. I've never seen The Vampire Diaries. But, I feel like I understand him, and his passion for environmentalism in the wake of hurricane Katrina,” said Michael. “Visit [New Orleans] once, and it's easy to see why people fall in love with it. Visit it now, and it's easy to feel compassion for the people living there. Add to this issue the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the devastation that followed, and you just feel compelled to do something… anything. I admire Mr. Somerhalder's efforts.

Move over Tony Stark, we've got a new hero in town.
