Last year #SonyPictures launched its third version of #SpiderMan, with Tom Holland portraying everyone's favorite wise-cracking wall-crawling teenager, in cooperation with Marvel Studios. Holland was met with overwhelming approval from fans and critics alike; he'll star in Spider-Man Homecoming in July.
After that, Sony is moving forward with a project that will intrigue fans of Peter Parker: a Venom solo movie.
Before Sony worked out its deal with Marvel, it had several Spidey spinoffs in the works, including Sinister Six — which would feature villains from the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man franchise — and a highly-anticipated Venom project. With the most recent reboot, however, these projects seemed to be dead in the water.
Suddenly, it seems there is hope that the symbiote known as Venom will be coming to the big screen after all ... but it might be separate from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and the MCU.
Sony Announces Venom Release Date And Director
Sony has announced that #Venom will be hitting theaters on October 5, 2018, which is a lot sooner than we thought. Venom will be written by Dante Harper (Edge of Tomorrow). Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing.
This film would be not be related to Tom Holland's Spider-Man reboot, and would be its own stand-alone franchise – which is a huge bummer to fans who wanted to see Venom in the #MCU, perhaps through a symbiote cameo in Infinity War.

As of now, there aren’t too many details regarding Venom, and we only have the same information Sony released a year ago. We do know that Sony has been trying to make a Venom film ever since the Topher Grace fiasco in Spider-Man 3.
Venom has a huge fan following, and is one of the most badass villains in Marvel Comics. It’s awesome that fans of the character will finally get to see him get his own film, and hopefully the filmmakers get it right this time.
While you’re waiting for more details on Venom, make sure to catch Spider-Man: Homecoming in theaters on July 7, 2017.
