I feel as if 2013 is the year that actress will start to regain a foothold among a more mainstream audience. Ever since the last X-Files movie wrapped, the actress has spent more time doing lesser-known indie roles and period drama television miniseries that have kept her, more or less, out of the spotlight. And, honestly, after the global phenomenon that was The X-Files, it's understandable that she wanted to step away from the limelight and all the associations that came with the beloved character of Agent Dana Scully to focus on her family.

But a return to screens both big and small might signal she's ready for roles with wider audience recognition. She'll be starring in upcoming sci-fi movie Our Robot Overlords with , which films later this year, but we can also see her much sooner on the small screen.

This past week's episode of Hannibal featured the illustrious , and next week starts Anderson's multiple episode arc as Hannibal Lecter's () therapist, Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier.

Nice to see she still has the professional sass that Agent Scully could always bring.

Hannibal airs Thursdays at 10/9CST on NBC.
