The Hulk may like to claim that he's the strongest one there is, but that hasn't stopped Marvel's writers from pitting him against a number of characters over the years, both in comic books and film.
From Wolverine and The Thing to Thor himself, the Green Goliath often finds himself brawling with Marvel's finest heroes. However, one showdown that we could never have predicted is between #Hulk and Groot, the gentle tree monster from #GuardiansoftheGalaxy.
While this is one fight that few fans expected to see, it looks like the two heroes may come to blows at some point after all. During an interview at Comic Con Experience in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Vin Diesel discussed the future of Groot, the character that he voices in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise;
"I know that somewhere in the universe you're going to see Groot and Hulk battle, I know it! Write it down somewhere, you're going to see that posted...Groot versus Hulk."
And write it down we shall.
With all the buzz surrounding the new trailer release for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2., most would assume that this guarantees a surprise Hulk cameo in the upcoming sequel, but it seems that this line of reasoning only leads us down a trail of bitter disappointment.
A few years back, director James Gunn Hulk smashed any rumors of a team up in an interview with Indiewire, definitively stating that;
"I can answer that question very easily: it is absolute, 100% bullshit. It feels like a great relief to finally say this after all the dumb stuff on the Internet. There's not going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never a plan for the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy – I wouldn't want the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy! And it's all a bunch of complete bullshit."
Sure, it might seem then that Vin Diesel may have taken a few too many hits to the head in the past few years, but there's still a chance that the Hulk and Groot could come to blows and it's down to one of these two reasons;
1) James Gunn could be lying to us.
2) Groot and the Hulk could fight in Avengers: Infinity War.
While it makes sense that Gunn would be keen to keep a potential Groot/Hulk fight under wraps, he's arguably one of the most open directors working in Hollywood today, regularly communicating with his fans. It makes far more sense then if the fight that Diesel alludes to takes place in #AvengersInfinityWar. After all, we know for a fact that the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in the huge ensemble that Marvel have gathered for this Avengers sequel, so this would be the perfect time to pit the two against one another in a typical superhero misunderstanding.
