#TheWalkingDead has a reputation for exploring many different narratives, since its characters are often scattered across various locations— and Season 7 was certainly no exception. But despite the old gang being reunited once more, there's still a few loose threads lying around.
This isn't the Rick Grimes show anymore. And as adorable as it is to see him and Michonne making out in Morgan's dark, creepy homemade dungeon, there are bigger subplots to follow in the second half of Season 7. The mid-season finale was nowhere near the cliffhanger of the end of Season 6 (thank god), but instead left us with a number of new questions and exciting possibilities.
Here's the main contenders for Season 7b's shining stars:
7. Boots Guy
Excuse me, but who the hell are you and why are you spying on Rick and Aaron? Is it the doomsday prepper from the boat? A Whisperer? Someone from Oceanside? Or just someone who has a major crush on Rick and/or Aaron? Sorry stranger, but they're both spoken for. Either way, we're sure to see more of this mystery figure when Season 7 returns.
6. Dwight & Sherry
There's something so intriguing about Sherry. Unlike the rest of Negan's wives, she's defiantly hot-headed around the king of the Saviors, showing little regard for his merciless wrath. Far from being apathetic, she still keeps a rebellious spirit; It's entirely possible that she was the one who freed Daryl from his cell. What else is she plotting? Could she be the one to bring down Negan from the inside?
Her relationship with Dwight is long over, but you can't forget the past. They've got history, and despite their circumstances making things between them majorly weird, they still hold space and time for each other. They've escaped him once before, and it's possible that they'll take a more head-on approach to ending Negan's hold over the two of them.
5. Shiva & Ezekiel
You can't introduce a majestic tiger sidekick and then just forget about it. You just can't. This show has been sadly lacking in animal accomplices; Quite frankly, the lack of dogs in the zombie apocalypse alarms me. If Rick's group can be popping out babies left right and centre, why can't other survivors keep pets? These are the hard-hitting questions, people.
Giant tigers aside, we also haven't seen too much of Ezekiel. The intriguing thespian king is somewhat of an enigma, both fascinating and a little over the top. Given his group's inexperience with dealing with the Saviors' more aggressive side, will he be capable of successfully leading his Kingdom into battle?

As a long-running main character on The Walking Dead, Carol's personality has evolved so much since we first met her. Now, she's found a happy medium between "deranged killed" and "sweater-loving Stepford Wife". Her mental breakdown seems to have subsided, but she's renounced violence for good, which is probably a result of shooting that creepy murder child in cold blood:
But that's not going to last long, because the Kingdom needs her! She doesn't look too impressed by the idea, but she should have known that her idyllic cemetery-side life wouldn't last forever.
Despite his social misgivings, Eugene's diverse scientific knowledge makes him a real asset to any group— and Negan definitely knows it. His ability to make bullets will no doubt have him churning out ammo for the Saviors, meaning he's going to be spending a whole lot of time at the Sanctuary. This will probably be a defining moment for Eugene, testing his fragile persona and potentially forcing him to become the man Abraham always needed him to be.
Where the hell is Heath? We certainly didn't get an answer to the 'PPP' card that Tara found in the RV's muddy tire tracks. If he's been taken by another group, that means we'll be getting a glimpse at a whole new set of survivors. It's about time Heath got his chance at the spotlight. Will he be reunited with his scavenging buddy Tara? Let's hope she doesn't give up on the idea of trying to find him. Seriously, I need to know what that whole 'PPP' thing is about. Could it be the calling card of the Whisperers?
Maggie is back in action, and she's opted to hide her questionable new Mom haircut with a very Glenn-inspired baseball cap. Smart move, girl. Maggie has of course been one of the most featured characters of the show for some time, especially since Glenn's disappearance and the announcement of her pregnancy.
However, things are taking yet another unexpected turn for Maggie as she's facing the possibility of leading Hilltop. Sometimes, all you need to do to get ahead in life is punch the right smug jerk in the face.
Given the recent devastating loss of her husband, it's uncertain wether she'll be capable of being the leader that Hilltop needs her to be, especially on the brink of a war with the Saviors. But she's got the support of her closest friends behind her once again, and all the pie she can eat. That's a recipe for success right there.
