Halloween is by far my favorite holiday, and amid the costumes, candy, and creepy movies, one of the aspects of All Hallows Eve to which I most look forward is The Simpson's "Treehouse of Horror." Every year, and his team put together some extraordinarily fun horror spoofs that play like mini horror/comedy anthologies. This year's installment promises to be truly spectacular.

How spectacular? Well, how about the fact that the opening title sequence was directed by ! We're talking about one of the most unique and visionary genre filmmakers taking the reins of one of television's most iconic openings. And we don't even have to wait until the episode airs to see it! Shock Til You Drop gave us the heads up that the Animation Domination YouTube account posted the entire title sequence.

It isn't merely the nods to his own works (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, Blade 2), but this sequence also reminds us that Guillermo is as much a nerd for horror as we are, or at least as I am. When we get to the segment wherein Maggie is driving, the vehicle she's piloting is in fact the car from The Car. Her forcing the bike-riding Milhouse off the bridge is a direct reference to The Car's opening scene. Track that movie down immediately if you haven't already seen it. This entire title sequence made my black heart swell.

Take a look and let us know what you think! "Treehouse of Horror XXIV" airs this Sunday, October 6th at 8/7c.
