Following his unforgettable final hurrah in Logan, it's almost impossible to imagine anyone except Hugh Jackman play Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. However, back when comic book movies weren't taken seriously and the DCEU was still just a glint in Zack Snyder's eye, there was a time when Fox actually had to audition stars who could bring 'Ol Canucklehead to life.

Fortunately, the producers working on saw Hugh Jackman's potential, and, as they say, the rest is history. However, not every Hollywood star was so lucky. Join us as we take a look at the very best and very worst auditions, long before each of these stars was a dead cert for the roles on offer.

Within the first thirty seconds of this audition tape, it's clear why went on to embody the role of across nine films, winning us over with a grizzled portrayal that captured the essence of everyone's favorite cigar-smoking hero.

Chloe Bennet's & Brett Dalton's Screen Test For Skye & Ward ('Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.')

Aside from the basic surroundings on display, this screen test could easily be taken from an actual episode of , thanks to the natural chemistry shared between Chloe Bennet and Brett Dalton.

Tom Hiddleston Auditions For Thor ('Thor')

Just like Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine, it's impossible to imagine anyone other than playing the villainous , so you may be surprised to learn that the British heartthrob originally auditioned for the part of . The clip above shows a more muscular Hiddleston than we're used to, but it's safe to say that Marvel chose wisely here, asking him to take on the God of Mischief instead.

Jennifer Garner may have won the role of in 's first cinematic outing, even starring in her own spin-off movie, but did any of us really win here? While it's interesting to see Garner meet 'Matt Murdock' for the first time in this audition, we can't help but wonder why she agreed to this script in the first place.
