Justice League may have had its share of flaws but at least the movie set up Green Lantern Corps. Despite there not being any Green Lantern in the League, fans were pleasantly surprised to see a Green Lantern Corps member in a scene which showed Steppenwolf's first attack on Earth. Although the Lantern was killed off moments after he appeared on screen, many fans were left scratching their heads at who the identity of the mysterious Corps member was. Now, a fan may have cracked the case, unveiling the identity of the superhero.

The Identity of the Lantern

According to Reddit user StrandingDeath, the Green Lantern was none other than Yalan Gur. The character first appeared in 1991’s Green Lantern #19. Gur served as the protector of Space Sector 2814 (where Earth is located) approximately two thousand years ago, but became corrupted from having too much power.

While the Lantern who was fighting on Earth in Justice League seemed pretty heroic, there are other clues that hint at Yalan Gur being the Lantern, aside from the timeframe — as this scene was also set about two thousand years ago.

As you can see from the picture the Redditer uploaded, there's some glaring similarities between Yalan Gur and the in Justice League.

The Lantern Finder

Zack Snyder may have even hinted at the appearance of Yalan Gur before Justice League was released. Speaking to Collider over a year ago, Snyder explained that he consulted with DC Comics chief Geoff Johns on bringing in the lesser-known comic hero.

“Geoff and I have had a great working relationship, even on Batman v Superman, and on Wonder Woman we worked together really closely, and we have a project coming up that we want to do together. He’s like an encyclopedia of comic books. I’ll be like, ‘Hey, is there a weird Lantern from –?’ and he’ll be like, ‘You know…!’ ”

And while the Yalan Gur certainly didn't play a huge role in the film, his death may have created the need for an Earth-based Green Lantern, something that we may be able to learn more about when Green Lantern Corps releases in 2020.
