With BBC's revered fantasy drama Merlin coming to a close at the end of last year, the network has been searching for a suitable replacement for its fan favorite series.

Enter Atlantis, the new brainchild from the minds behind Merlin, namely and , along with Misfits writer .

Atlantis will follow the story of Greek hero Jason (), who, along with Pythagoras () and Hercules (), gets sucked into the mythical land of Atlantis, where, well, all sorts of stuff happens:

The city of Atlantis is a mysterious, ancient place; a world of bull leaping, of snake-haired goddesses and of palaces so vast it was said they were built by giants. It's into this strange, compelling realm that the young Jason arrives and an amazing adventure begins, bringing to life the vast store of Greek myths and legends reimagined for a new generation.

Atlantis will launch on BBC America following the UK premiere late this year for a 13-episode run.
