Thor is about to go defend the universe from otherworldly forces once again in Thor: Ragnarok. Taika Waitit's zany adventure will feature plenty of new players, but we'll also get to see a variety of recurring characters like Loki, Heimdall, Odin and Hogun make their triumphant return to close out the God of Thunder's trilogy. Even with those returning faces, though, there's one major hero whom we've been wondering about for the past few months: Jamie Alexander's Lady Sif.
The character made her live-action debut in 2011's #Thor, and she's become a major part in the MCU ever since. Alexander reprised her role in Thor: The Dark World, and subsequently made a special appearance in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first season. Fans were eager to see the warrior kick some butt once again in Ragnarok, but despite some mixed signals, everything seems to point to her not being involved in the project.
Not seeing such a pivotal character in the Thor series return is frustrating enough, but her sudden disappearance left plenty of us wondering what exactly happened to her. Did she die? Was she on an adventure somewhere in the vast MCU cosmos? Folks, we finally have an answer.
Here's What Happened To Lady Sif After 'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.'
Marvel Studios chief #KevinFeige sat down for an interview with Cinema Blend, where he was asked about the mystery surrounding Sif's absence. Everyone's favorite producer explained that Loki's rule has affected pretty much every part of #Asgard. While he's in some ways a skilled leader (you know, not counting the fact that he's responsible for unleashing Hela on every poor living soul) it was important for him to keep his real identity as an Odin imposter a secret.
As it turns out, that same pivotal quest for secrecy encouraged him to banish some of Thor's closest friends, one of them being Sif:
"It's been in the works [...] since we finished ['The Dark World']. 'What has Loki been doing on that throne in guise of Odin?' [We] always liked the idea that he was doing a good [...] but shortsighted job. The trains were running on time, but he wasn't paying attention to anything else going on in the universe or in the realms [...] And the idea that he would have to get rid of Heimdall, because Heimdall can see everything [...] and probably the Warriors Three, to discount them... which is probably an answer to a question I've been asked a few times today: Sif was probably banished. She's off somewhere."
Wow, I can only imagine the terrors she and the rest of the Warriors Three have gone through around the universe. While Feige's explanation was fairly vague, it does makes sense, and I have a little theory for what led Loki to specifically take her out. During her AoS crossover, #LadySif was tasked by Odin (a.k.a. the God of Mischief in disguise) with bringing the runaway Lorelei back to Asgard.
The mystery behind Loki's plans for the sorceress has been bugging us for three years, but taking into account how Sif was apparently an obstacle for his goals, could her capture of Lorelei have made her privy to information she wasn't supposed to know, thus encouraging Loki to banish her? It's possible, but again, this is just speculation on my part, so we'll have to wait for more information regarding her future.
Could We See Lady Sif Once Again In The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Good news for fellow Sif fans out there, because by stating she was alive, Feige left the door wide open for her to return. Admittedly, we have no idea of what Marvel's plans are for the Thor franchise or its vast array of characters moving forward, but with so many lingering questions about Sif's part in the #MCU still fresh in fans' minds, I'm confident that the studio will explore her story in the near future.
The question now becomes when she'll pop up once again. That's a complete mystery right now, and it's frankly not wise to speculate with so little information at our disposal. For all we know, it could happen in Avengers: Infinity War or perhaps in one of Marvel's TV series, but we'll just have to wait and see how the franchise unfolds.
We'll get to venture into the world of Thor once again and get an idea of how Lady Sif could make her return to the MCU when Ragnarok lands in theaters on November 3, 2017.
What do you think about Lady Sif's fate? Do you think we'll see her pop up again in the MCU at some point in the future? Let me know in the comments!
