DC's Legends of Tomorrow seems to have found its footing in its second year. After abandoning predictable villains and reincarnated bird people, the second season has let loose and is having fun while not abandoning the seriousness. One of the biggest improvements (in my opinion) is the focus on character building. Season 1 seemed to just hope that the characters previous CW history would carry them through.
Perhaps one of the most exciting prospects of #LegendsOfTomorrow, is that every season we get new heroes — I mean, Legends — and a new roster. Season 1 swapped out Hawkman, Hawkgirl and Captain Cold (We miss you, Leonard!) and brought in Vixen and Citizen Steel. Now, we near the end of Season 2, so there's no doubt that we'll have some changes. Let's look at everyone's chances of survival and what they might do.
Sara Lance — White Canary
Sarah has seen a big step up this season. She took over the mantle of Captain from Rip (more on him in a minute) and has been awesome overall. So, will Sara live? Most probably, yeah. Sarah has become one of the best female protagonists in the Arrowverse. She represents the LGBT community and she sends a strong message to girls everywhere. Plus, Sara has a knack for resurrection. I highly doubt Sara will die, and I don't think she's leaving the Waverider any time soon.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 90 percent
Ray Palmer — The Atom
Ray "Haircut" Palmer has been bringing his signature geekiness and smarts to the table since Season 1. Ray's gone through some tough times this season, like when he lost his suit for a few episodes. Ray's death was supposed to happen in Season 1, but Snart (ugly cry) took his place. So, what's in store for Ray? I'm afraid dear old Dr. Palmer might not make it. The sad truth is, Ray lets his sense of goodness get in the way a lot of times, and that alone has nearly killed him. A recent example of this was in Camelot, when Ray tries to take out Damien Darkh, A MEMBER OF THE LEAGUE OF ASSASSINS, in a sword fight. If he wasn't wearing his armor, he'd be dead.
I think Ray will get a heroic death, one where he sacrifices himself for the others. However, there is a very good chance that Ray will survive. You can already tell that the story of the Atom is far from over, so I give it a 50/50.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 50 percent
Mick Rory — Heatwave
Here's another character whose story is just getting started. Mick came into Season 1 as a villain. For most of the first season, he seemed like he'd rather be stealing. Season 2 marked a huge turnaround for the character. He's not the same criminal he was — he's a caring and compassionate and overly blunt criminal. Mick's character has evolved so much, and his relationships with the other Legends are a treat to watch. I say Mick is staying.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 90 percent
Martin Stein/ Jefferson Jackson — Firestorm
As Mick pointed out to everyone two episodes ago, Stein is getting old. At what point will Martin want to return to his wife and daughter. He already feels like he hasn't been there for Lily, so will he ditch the Legends thing by the end of the season? The only problem is that if Martin goes, then Jax goes, which is a shame. Jax was a character in Season 1 who didn't really do much except help Stein with his problems. This season has seen Jax grow much bigger.
So, the question is, will Firestorm sit out next season? I think so. The problem with one leaving and the other staying is that they need each other. Without Jax, Martin will die, and I highly doubt Jax will let him leave the team when he knows what will happen.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 60 percent
Nate Heywood — Citizen Steel
The addition of historian/superhero Nate Heywood was a welcome addition this season. Heywood brings vast knowledge of history (very important when you're protecting the timeline) and just about as much nerdiness as Ray. I think Nate has a very good chance of sticking around when the season ends.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 80 percent
Amaya Jiwe — Vixen
The second new addition Team Legends was Vixen from the JSA. I was kind of upset with the way she was handled the first half of the season, but she has evolved during the second half. Sadly, as the show has been pointing out to us, Vixen's history is already set. I think it's very clear that Vixen won't be joining the team for the third season.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 30 percent
Finally, Captain Hunter himself. I think out of all the Legends besides Vixen, Rip has the highest chance of dying. Let's face it: Savage is gone; he's not the Captain anymore. Rip is struggling to find his place on the team. The truth is, Sara is a better Captain than Rip could ever be, and Rip knows it. I think Rip's death is almost confirmed.
Chances of returning for Season 3: 20 percent
Now that we've looked at the current team, who could make it into the next season? Well, we were recently given some clues about a character who could make it.
"We’re drawing on an established character who is not from the comics. Let me be very clear: not original to the show but not from the comics and not from any of the other DC Arrowverse shows."
This comes from Executive Producer Phil Klemmer. He also suggested watching #DC shows and movies that created characters. I don't know about you but...
He started in a show. Just sayin'.
Which characters do you think will survive for a Season 3 appearance, and which ones won't make it?
