It's official: the 90s was so long ago that it's become acceptable to revive a 90s show as a period piece. Director and writer have regrouped to create a TV adaptation of their 1994 comedy, Reality Bites. For those of a certain age (old, ancient people like me), Reality Bites really captured a very particular hazy, grungy set of images. Empire Records, My-So Called Life, Clueless...that whole plaid-heavy, flannel-shirted style just takes you back, right?
NBC will air the pilot for Reality Bites, which will borrow the characters from the original movie. Lelaina Pierce (made famous by ) will still bumble around Houston with her Gen X buddies, creating a very similar vibe to Stiller's 90s hit.
It's likely that Reality Bites will be a divisive show, which will require careful handling from Stiller to ensure that it is a lovingly rendered love song to the 90s, rather than a painfully dated embarrassment. What do you think, guys? Will Stiller's unusual project end in triumph or disaster? And which 90s classic would you like to see revived? I'm gunning for a live action version of Pirates of Dark Water, personally, but then I always had a thing for Tula...
