In 2018 some of our favorite Avengers will not be coming out of Avengers: Infinity War unscathed. The question is: Who?
- Your Big 'Avengers: Infinity War' Guide: News, Trailers, Release Date, Theories & All You Need To Know
If you haven't seen the video Marvel Studios put out that acts almost as prologue for #InfinityWar, check it out below. If you've already seen it, you should watch it again because it contains a quote you probably glanced over:
While it could be just me overreacting, Kevin Feige says mid-video:
"Thanos shows us why he's the biggest, best, the baddest villain that we ever had."
This doesn't necessarily imply that #Thanos is going to kill one or more of Earth's Mightiest Heroes or one of our awesome mix of guardians, but it does imply he will leave his mark on our heroes in a way no villain has done before.
I know you're slamming the keyboard and getting ready to remind me that Loki killed Coulson, Ultron killed Quicksilver and maybe you're going to remind that Malekith killed Frigga. Yet, those moments still didn't feel like they left a huge impact (other than maybe Coulson's death, which was basically negated with the events of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. That may or not be canon — I don't know any more than the next guy). I have a gut feeling that #Marvel Studios heard the fan outcray saying that majority of villains are as forgettable as a dark elf (Why am I reminding you of Thor: The Dark World again?).
With that said, let me begin to theorize who will fall at the hands of Thanos's Infinity Gauntlet on May 4, 2018.
Vision basically has a target on his head with his Infinity Stone and probably will be the last one Thanos needs to complete his gauntlet. In my opinion, Vision is one of the most interesting characters in the #MCU with his quirky, almost geekish traits. Vision's awkward but adorable interest in Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War was one of my favorite moments in the film.
I expect Vision's death will significantly impact Tony Stark since he's pretty much Vision's father. Tony Stark will probably realize the odds of beating the purple goliath will be slim after losing one of his strongest and smartest Avengers. I expect that Scarlet Witch will be probably start loosing grasp of her powers after #Vision bites the dust. Hopefully their relationship has progressed since the last time we saw them so that his death feels as important as losing some of our first Avengers.
The death of Vision could drive Scarlet Witch to become a better character and would probably add more depth to her character as a whole. Vision's death also could help push the MCU to up the stakes in their films. Everyone shouldn't be untouchable, even if you're a handsome-dressing, overpowered android.
Let's be honest: We all thought he was going to take an arrow to the chest after his mediocre outing in The Avengers. Then he surprised us all with his spectacular performance in Age of Ultron. After introducing his family background I was sure they were getting him ready for a nice send off, but then Quicksilver became the best shield in the MCU.
#Hawkeye was back to being one of the lower-tier Avengers in Captain America: Civil War and I thought now he was going to take an arrow for the team to add more emotional depth/stakes. Alas, he managed to survive once again.
I can almost guarantee you that Jeremy Renner is tired of the playing the second-fiddle Avenger and he has asked the Russo brothers to axe (or shall I say arrow?) him off in Infinity War.
Nebula is the bitter, resentful and least-liked daughter of Thanos, and since Karen Gillian is set to reprise her role in Infinity War, it's almost a fact that she doesn't die in #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy. It's therefore highly likely that she's going to die in Infinity War.
#Nebula will confront her father and her arrogance will cause Thanos to show off his power. In the Infinity Gauntlet comic Thanos transformed her into a zombie-like corpse before beaming her into ash shortly after. She comes back to life and manages to take the gauntlet but I doubt they keep that part of the story. I'm sure they're going to build up her character in the upcoming Guardians sequel so she could be killed off by the purple-faced Thanos in #InfinityWar. This also kills off a member of the Guardians team, building up their story in Infinity War.
The son of Odin will fall at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and he will not live to see Infinity War Part II. Why will everyone's favorite Hemsworth fall in Infinity War?
- Thor's mom Frigga died in Thor: The Dark World.
- Odin is probably going to die in the end of Thor: Ragnarok.
- Everyone's favorite villain, Loki, is also probably going to die in Thor: Ragnarok.
- Rumor has it that Chris Hemsworth isn't set to return for the Infinity War sequel.
The last bullet point might be just a rumor but the other points make it pointless for Thor's story to go on.
The MCU needs to also make room for new Avengers to be apart of the starting lineup like Brie Larson's #CaptainMarvel, Chadwick Boseman's #BlackPanther, Tom Holland's #SpiderMan and our new mystical member — Benedict Cumberbatch as #DoctorStrange.
I'm pretty Thor: Ragnarok is going to be the last solo Thor film since Ragnarok clearly means the end of Asguard — right?
Who Else ?
I'm pretty sure the characters I named will NOT return for the Infinity War sequel. As for characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk and Black Widow, I think their chances of dying in the first Infinity War film is unlikely. Robert Downey Jr. helps with the Marvel's tab in the box office, Chris Evans needs to punch Thanos 'til the end, Hulk is Hulk and we need a Black Widow movie, so you can't kill off Scarlet Johansson.
