The CW has shown time and again that it does not shy away from spin-offs or crossovers by mixing and matching characters across different shows. The Vampire Diaries fans are currently searching for ways to mourn the recent series finale of a journey that lasted eight seasons. The most obvious place to seek solace is in the show's spin-off starring the Mikaelson family: The Originals.

With so many characters on (both dead and alive), it is hard to decide who should make an appearance in New Orleans after a five-year time jump. As this is a supernatural world, no one is off limits. After all, it wouldn't be the first time someone came back to life.

(WARNING: This article contains spoilers for The Vampire Diaries series and The Originals Season 4, Episode 7.)

Caroline Forbes

This is undoubtedly the most obvious choice. Shipping Caroline Forbes (Candice King) and Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) is only natural. Their chemistry is undeniable, inappropriate, but most importantly, sexy — a forbidden love you can't help but root for. Besides, their daughters can go on magical play dates.

This all became more plausible after the series finale of The Vampire Diaries and the Season 3 finale of The Originals. Caroline becomes a widow when her husband, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), sacrifices himself and Klaus similarly loses his girlfriend, Camille O'Connell (Leah Pipes), to the fatal bite of Lucien Castle. How sad, but also kind of fortunate for Klaus and Caroline lovers.

Bonnie Bennett

Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) was one of the most extraordinary characters on The Vampire Diaries. She is a total bad ass, always saves the day, and is one of the most powerful witches ever. She literally destroyed Hell itself and brought down Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) in the process.

Witches have a strong presence in the mystical city of New Orleans, so it makes perfect sense for Bonnie to make an appearance. Maybe she will visit Louisiana while looking for a spell, or perhaps the Mikaelsons will need a witch to assist on one of their epic killing sprees. After all, she is the last surviving Bennett witch.

Matt Donovan

Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) was pretty much the only human who survived the entire show (even though he did kind of die five times and see the dead for a quick minute). Matt was naively brave, yet always insecure about not having ties to any of the founding families of Mystic Falls. In Season 8, it is revealed that the Donovans did, in fact, have historical significance.

His mysterious family history was left rather unexplored, so it could have easily crossed paths with the Mikaelsons. Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt) and Matt dated for some time in TVD when the Mikaelsons were originally introduced to The CW. Matt said he was thinking about running for mayor in the finale, so he may be a changed man. It would also be awful, awkward, yet fun to watch (or not) should Caroline and Matt meet up on The Originals and rekindle that old flame.

Jenna Sommers

Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning) was a rather short-lived character who acted as Elena and Jeremy Gilbert's aunt and legal guardian. She was killed by Niklaus in order to break his curse, making him even more ruthless and invincible. This seemingly random link could eventually come back to haunt Klaus in a moment of weakness.

Jenna may have been overlooked, but that just means there's a lot left about her character to explore. For one, she was of a slightly older generation than the Elena crowd, which we know less about. She was always dismissed as a wild party girl in her youth, but for all we know, there could be a lot more to that story. I smell compulsion.

Damon Salvatore

Why on earth would anyone pass up an opportunity to include Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) in their show? He is the last remaining Salvatore brother and simply must make an appearance. Besides, combining Damon and New Orleans sounds like a hurricane.

Klaus may need to find Tyler Lockwood's bones (Michael Trevino), which probably means seeking out his murderer. This may turn into a vengeful quest, especially for Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin), who was introduced through Tyler after helping him break his werewolf curse. We may just see a Damon vs. Mikaelsons showdown. He would have to bring in the ol' gang in order to survive that. No offense to Damon.

This has already been hinted at in both the above comments and in the ending of S4E7 "High Water and a Devil's Daughter." The Mikaelsons learn of Tyler Lockwood's death after realizing they need his bones. He was murdered in TVD, but his murderer's identity has not yet been revealed on The Originals. It is only a matter of time before the original family figure out who did it (cue Damon's guest appearance).

Tyler will possibly come back to life in order to assist the Mikaelson family, or he may simply reappear as a ghost or in a flashback. The Vampire Diaries finale suggested Tyler finally worked things out with Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell) in the afterlife — he could bring her along. Vicki and Tyler would likely jump at the opportunity to be alive again and seek revenge on their mutual enemy, Damon Salvatore.

Which TVD character would you like to appear in The Originals?
