Force Friday is finally here, when Star Wars fans can get their hands on all of the brand new The Last Jedi toys and merchandise. And those toys will also give us hints about new characters, one of whom Lucasfilm and Disney just revealed to the public: Paige Tico.
Paige Tico is being portrayed by Vietnamese actress Veronica Ngo and will play a minor supporting role in #TheLastJedi. Tico was first seen in the behind-the-scenes #StarWars video that was released at the D23 Expo:
Many fans spotted her quick appearance, and director Rian Johnson confirmed it was her in the sizzle reel.
If you couldn't tell from the image at top, Paige Tico is a gunner for the Resistance. Beyond that, she is the sister of Rose Tico, a Resistance maintenance worker who will have a much larger role in The Last Jedi. Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) will embark on a mission along with Finn to Canto Bight, where they'll probably run into some conflict with the First Order.
Paige is one of the five minifigures in the new "Resistance Bomber" Lego set, as part of The Last Jedi wave being released on #ForceFriday. In the past, a female supporting character wouldn't have received the Lego treatment, but it's clear that Lucasfilm is now making sure to give every character the spotlight, regardless of gender, color or race.
Also, Paige and Rose Tico were featured on the cover of Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Cobalt Squadron. The novel is being written by Elizabeth Wein — here's the official description:
New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Wein (Code Name Verity, Rose Under Fire) journeys to a galaxy far, far away to bring readers the harrowing story of the courageous bomber pilots and technicians of Cobalt Squadron!
Overall, it looks like Paige Tico will play a minor role in the film, but she will most likely have a gigantic impact on Rose. Since Rose is a character who is unsure about her role in the Resistance, she probably looks up to Paige as a role model and wishes she could be an experienced gunner like her sister.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens on December 15th.
