Hollywood studios always look to the Oscar season in fall as a time ripe for profit (and, to a lesser extent, glory). With March 2nd, '14 — that is to say, Oscar Sunday — still about four months away, there's no telling yet which film will snag the coveted gilded statuette for Best Animated Feature. But we do have a pool of candidates to choose from, as there's now a definitive list of the nineteen films submitted for contention in the 2014 Academy Awards.

Not all of the films on the list have met all the qualifying criteria for an Oscar nomination, specifically the required Los Angeles County theatrical run (which slightly hurts the chances of Asian-market films, although they still have time for an LA release before December 31st). Any of the films submitted may also qualify for other Academy Awards (i.e. Best Film), provided they meet all of the necessary and sometimes burdensome requirements for that category.

Without further ado, here are the nineteen submissions, in alphabetical order:

- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

The Croods

- Despicable Me 2

- Epic

Ernest and Celestine

- The Fake

- Free Birds

- Frozen

- Khumba

- The Legend of Sarila

- A Letter to Momo

- Monsters University

- O Apóstolo

- Planes

- Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie – Rebellion

- Rio: 2096 A Story of Love and Fury

- The Smurfs 2

- Turbo

- The Wind Rises

Which of these movies would have your vote, supposing you were a voting member of ATAS? Did you particularly enjoy any of those? Is this year's batch better or worse than previous crops? Let us know in the comments section.

Next year's Academy Awards Ceremony will be held on March 2, 2014 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. You can watch it live on ABC, or if you live outside the US, in more than 225 countries and territories with varying broadcasters.
